As everyone will be aware, we're in a stage where we are all living under enhanced social distancing restrictions.

Here is the most recent general guidance from Bradford Council - if you've not done so already there is the option to receive email updates from the Council.

What this reinforces is the need for those who are running physical activity sessions to follow their relevant National Governing Body or Sport England guidance to minimise the risk of spreading the virus in our district.

If you have any questions or would like some advice about restarting your activities, please get in touch with Gillian Brown at Yorkshire Sport Foundation.

Living Well are gathering insight for future health campaigns, one of the ways this is being done is through a short online survey. We want to better understand current health and wellbeing behaviours and how this may inform what Living Well can do to support communities with future information and services.

£1 is being donated to the Bradford Lord Mayor's Charity Appeal with the first 600 responses - please share the link with your contacts in Bradford!

Bradford City Runs 2020 cancelled

The difficult decision to cancel this year’s Bradford City Runs has been taken, in line with a number of similar events up and down the country.

Bradford Council has confirmed the event will not be taking place on 1 November, 2020 after assessing the safety provisions which would need to be in place for competitors and the uncertainty of the coronavirus situation at the time.

Ways to stay active!

Whilst the district remains cautious to the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) there are many people who will feel more comfortable staying at home to exercise. It's even more important that these people are reminded that there are different things they can do to keep as active as they can be.

The Stay Active section of our website includes ways to be active across all of our life course groups.

We've placed these on the website so you can copy and paste them to use in your email newsletters, social media posts; however you communicate with your audiences.

Take a look and let us know if you know of an activity that you think should be included, particularly if it's from a local organisation or group.

Here are some activities that are on the webpage:
Living Streets - New resources and fun activities released weekly to encourage walking
Staying Steady - Evidenced based seated and standing exercises to improve strength and balance.
Kala Sangam - 'Morning Break' micro dance routines. These videos are specifically designed to help people working from home stretch out their shoulders and upper body
There are also a number of online resources which also have printed options available for you to access to send to people you are in contact with.

Active at home - Living Well have created a localised version of a Public Health England booklet aimed at helping older adults to stay fit and well and able to exercise safely at home.

We Are Undefeatable - The national campaign We Are Undefeatable has launched a number of online resources to support people living with health conditions to keep active: The Facebook messenger chatbot as well as Five in Five customisable workouts, which can be accessed through social media or the We Are Undefeatable website.

JU:MP@Home -  Our Sport England local delivery pilot, JU:MP has a website with ways to help keep your young ones active whilst at home through games. Visit www.jumpathome.org to start playing today!

If you would like a stock of printed booklets or JU:MP@Home activity calendars to distribute, please confirm the quantity you need and also supply a full delivery address including contact name and telephone number to nicola.marklew@bthft.nhs.uk or call 07855 115 066.

Partnership event feedback

Following on from the partnership event in July where we discussed options for active travel, with a particular focus on cycling, there is a team of people who are involved in progressing plans with Bradford Council. The group have representatives from Bradford College, local community groups and providers, the charity sector, Bradford District & Craven CCG and the Council to ensure a diverse range of feedback is given.

We hope to run the next partnership event in the autumn where we will be able to let you know how plans have turned into action! As soon as details are finalised, we'll share these with you.

Police Intelligence Portal

The Partnership Intelligence Portal has been developed by the police to give groups and organisations across the district a way to submit intelligence to the heart of West Yorkshire Police through a web-based system.

The portal is a way to bring partners together to share intelligence around local issues for the District. If you feel your group or organisation can contribute to the greater intelligence picture of Bradford, contact Charlotte Sugden, Intelligence Development Officer at West Yorkshire Police at charlotte.sugden@westyorkshire.pnn.police.uk who will be happy to provide further information.
