Applicants must be between 10 and 16 years old, show a keen interest in Gaelic language and culture, and must be a resident of Nova Scotia.

Na Gaisgich Òga gives students the opportunity to improve their language skills, participate in Gaelic culture (song, storytelling, music, dance, food traditions, and more), meet local native Gaelic speakers, and develop a deeper connection with their local community and the broader Nova Scotia Gaelic community.

This year, Na Gaisgich Òga is expanding to 5 community locations across Nova Scotia. We are seeking 10 students from each location and surrounding area:

Halifax
Antigonish
Mabou
Iona
St. Ann’s/Sydney

The program will consist of 24 day-sessions held within these five respective community areas. A final weekend session at the Gaelic College has been tentatively scheduled for all five groups to attend. In addition to these scheduled sessions, students will be paired with a language mentor, a Gaelic speaker from their community who they will meet with regularly throughout the program (2 to 3 times a month).

Timeline: September 26, 2020 – April 11, 2021

We’re officially back in action on Wednesday nights, and we couldn’t be happier about it! It was so nice to see our neighbours and pals here again last night - we’re already looking forward to next week. Want to come sometime? We’d love it! Seems it’s possible to keep a safe distance while still enjoying some live music this summer.
The island-wide traditional music festival is back for year 7 as Colaisde na Gàidhlig | the Gaelic College presents KitchenFest! Féis a’ Chidsin!, happening September 4 – 12 just for 2020. With all involved following up-to-date provincial guidelines, we will proceed surely and safely. The annual celebration of Cape Breton-based Gaelic music gives locals and visitors alike insight into this distinct and vibrant living culture, bringing the kitchen-ceilidh feel to the forefront. Fiddles and bagpipes, concerts and céilidhs, food and drink, Gaelic language and song, informality and hospitality — consider this your official invitation to Cape Breton’s biggest kitchen céilidh! www.kitchenfest.ca
