Greetings Phoenix Modern Families,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year and the second year of Phoenix Modern. I am writing to you from a place of hope and light, despite the uncertain circumstances of this year.
Our Guide family is growing. Four weeks ago, we welcomed Ms. Tracy, Ms. Alyssa, Ms. Clarissa, Ms. Liz and Ms. Laurie. We welcomed back Ms. Monika, Ms. Brianna, Ms. Meliza, Ms. Danielle, and Ms. Anna. Our Guide team is a dynamic force. Our Guides bring with them a wealth of experience in education, energy, wisdom, excitement and courage. Our Guides are dancers, musicians, authors, coders, actors, and world travelers. If you have not yet had the chance to learn more about our team, click the link to meet our team.
Last week, we welcomed families into our building for the first time since March. We hope that you enjoyed seeing our newly designed lobby, Hub, and studio spaces. Mr. Charlie made several trips to the hardware store this summer as he built the Guide work space and the reception desk. We all experienced some very raw emotions watching the children walk in to our space - some for the first time ever, and some for the first time since March. We loved the looks on children's faces as they walked into their studios and opened their Wonder Boxes. We missed the hugs and high fives, giving air fives and self-hugs to fill the void.
And today, we had our first day of school. This morning was all abuzz with excitement as we prepared to meet learners virtually for the first time. From my spot in the Hub, I could hear cheerful conversations, songs, and games. It gave me goosebumps. Even though we are not physically together, we are still connected as a community. We would love everyone to contribute to the celebration by sending us a first day of school photo from today.
Here are some of the things we heard from you this week:
"The creative and genuine efforts by our Phoenix Modern team soars beyond “sky is the limit” as we adopt to a very new normal, still full of wonder and discovery, keeping the love of learning deep at heart."
"Thank you all so much for all the obvious thought and work you've put into the learning spaces and the distance learning packages. It was wonderful for [us] to see all the smiling (masked) familiar faces."
"We were so impressed with the facility, staff and streamlining of log in and internet resources to foster independence for online learning. Thank you kindly for the opportunity for the 1:1 time."
"I want to cry with relief and excitement - that's how well it went."
Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we navigated technology and internet glitches today. We will continue to reflect upon and refine our program each day and will send you a survey to check-in at the end of the week. We can't wait to see you again tomorrow!
Wishing you well,
Jessica Taylor
