Mission: To advance gender equity for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy.

Happy August fellow Colorado AAUW members!  I trust you are staying well and busy during our “new normal” times.  I hope each of you finds a way to celebrate National Women’s Suffrage Month, as our nation commemorates the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment, which gave woman the right to vote. Maybe you can witness the “Forward into Light” campaign that will light up various landmarks throughout the country in purple and gold on August 26th or read an interesting book such as “Stories From Suffragette City”, a collection of short stories taking place in 1915, when thousands of women marched in New York City.

Thank you for all the positive feedback regarding my video in last month’s Connects.  It is the first time I ever did something like that and am so glad it worked for you.

This month my focus is our Fall Leadership Conference.  Did you know that most of the planning and arranging is being done by me, your President?  In years past, your state president has arranged for the location, food, speakers, and agenda for this important event.  This year, I’m having to do things a little differently and am planning this Conference as a webinar for the first time.  It has posed some challenges, but also some unique opportunities.

The most important opportunity is that you, yes, each and every one of you, can attend this webinar.  This year since there is no charge, and since it is offered via Zoom, I challenge each Colorado branch, state, and national member to participate in this event.  Mark your calendars now, and please plan to spend Saturday morning, September 12th, from 9:00am to 12:30pm with your fellow AAUW members.

AAUW of Colorado Highlights Longmont Branch
Each month one branch will be recognized for their great work in supporting the AAUW Mission and Strategic Plan and strong support of their local community.
Longmont Branch Recognized with 3 Stars

Congratulations to the Longmont Branch for receiving 3 stars as part of the national Five-Star Recognition Program.  The branch’s success was a result of the collaborative work of their active Public Policy chair, Current Issues and Advocacy interest group, Program Committee and Communications Team.  They were recognized with a star for:
  • Programs including Living Wage … should you care? and Legislative Dynamics … you ought to care!, which included local and state representatives as panelist on these topical subjects.
  • Governance & Sustainability for their strategic plan work, developing a promising succession plan and skills matrix for all members.
  • Communications & External Relations for its website coverage of WorkSmart Online and routine Economic Security features and #hashtags on their Facebook page.
Longmont Scholarships and Community Action Grants Help Others Thrive
