Saying "so long" to the dog days of summer...

Hello <<First Name>>,

According to Wikipedia, "The dog days or dog days of summer are the hot, sultry days of summer. They were historically the period following the heliacal rising of the star system Sirius, which Hellenistic astrology connected with heat, drought, sudden thunderstorms, lethargy, fever, mad dogs, and bad luck" (that sounds like most of 2020!).

Don't forget to check out our weekly news, a reminder of upcoming webinars, and a hint of our plans for the fall. In Water we up to at Home? we thought we'd just share a few CWRA dogs enjoying some late summer water fun.

New for members ...

Have a question about your membership? Not sure about renewal, benefits, and options? We have set up a new email address just for members! Drop us a line at memberservices@cwra.org

And stay tuned - we're starting a monthly online office session in September to make it even easier for you to reach out!
Second call for mentors!

Last month we sent out a survey to gauge the interest of people willing to volunteer as mentors and we'd like to thank those of you who answered the call.

Don't fret if you forgot to fill in the short survey, here's another chance to let us know if you'd be willing to volunteer a few hours to mentor a student, young professional, or newcomer to Canada. Promoting effective water management includes lending an ear and a hand to those new to the water community in Canada.

Other News You Can Use

Watch an excellent video of a recent webinar with Dr. Janice Lawrence, a University of New Brunswick Professor of Biology, to learn about cyanobacteria and how genetic tools are being used to determine if cyanobacteria contain harmful cyanotoxins. You will also hear how harmful cyanotoxins arise from cyanobacteria, why they are increasing in surface freshwater bodies in Canada, and what they are doing about it in New Brunswick.

Be sure to watch the video to the end as Dr. Lawrence does a superb job of answering questions from the webinar attendees. The online, recorded version of the July 16, 2020 webinar is now available here on youtube.

Registration is now open for McGill University's online course in Integrated and Adaptive Water Resources Planning, Management and Governance.

The course "takes a holistic look at water resources management at the watershed and sub-watershed level with a specific focus on watershed planning techniques, adaptive management strategies, capacity building approaches, water governance, and water business risk assessment to strengthen integrated water resources management capacities globally".

Course dates:
September 28, 2020 – November 23, 2020
Visit this McGill website to read the course overview and objectives.

What We're Reading

It's still hot, hot, hot, in many parts of Canada, so what better way to cool down then reading about ice ... lots of ice. One of our board members forwarded this recommendation so we immediately bought the book and fully agree - it's fascinating!

The Ice at the End of the World: An Epic Journey Into Greenland's Buried Past and Our Perilous Future
