 BIPOC and Anti-racist Allyship
This summer Cultural Studies has put together several teams in order to research and share resources with the Cultural Studies Community. Originally formed in response to COVID-19 the teams are expanding their purview to include a wider scope of relevant immediate and long-term resources for our community members.

This Google Doc has been put together by the BIPOC and Anti-racist Allyship Team. It is an in-progress resource - additions and feedback are welcome and can be sent to cs.gradstudent-ra@queensu.ca.

CUST Mentorships
Some members of the Cultural Studies Student Caucus (the self-organized student government) are setting up a mentorship program to help incoming students adjust to graduate school, Kingston, and Queen’s. At the moment, they are soliciting interest from existing students to see who would be interested in serving as a mentor. If you are interested in being a mentor please fill out this survey to let them know a bit about yourself, and anything else that you think is important for them to know in order to make the best match possible!

Qualifying Exam and Proposal Archive

This is a special request for post-QE PhD CUST students. CUST is creating an archive of exam materials. Given the diversity of research topics and methods in Cultural Studies, creating a “standard” template for QE materials and expectations presents some challenges. Instead, we’re hoping to create a resource that includes samples of each QE element from students with a wide range of research ideas and approaches including research creation, community-based research and portfolio PhD. We plan to make these available to students approaching the QE so that they can see what, in at least a few instances, the materials look like. They will still have to mesh their goals with those of their supervisor and committee, but we hope it will be empowering for them to have examples.

If you are a post-QE PhD CUST students and are willing to share any or all of the following items from the QE process, please forward (ideally) PDF copies to Carrie at cs.admin@queensu.ca:
-          1000-word QE proposal
-          Annotated bibliography, proposed QE questions
-          Final Thesis/Project Proposal submitted for Proposal Defence

Thanks.

Remote TD Week will provide a professional development opportunity for educators to engage in a wide variety of topics, from teaching your first seminar or lab, to technology tips for using onQ. This year, many of our topics will focus on transitioning into a remote learning environment – a teaching and learning environment that will be new to instructors, TAs, and students.
What will the structure of Remote TD Week look like? Instead of a single day, Remote TD Week will be a hybrid of online resources and videos, as well as live webinars throughout the week. • Room for Rent
475 MacDonnell Unit 1 - $590/month (not including utilities and laundry) Pros: Housemate doesn't pay for Internet as I have the same deal as I would if I were on my own, close to bus stops to/and from campus and grocery stores, lots of natural lighting, kitchen utensils (pots, pans, forks, knives, etc.) are communal as I've ended up having a collection from past housemates (this is optional, but I'm down to share stuff). Con: Your room does not have a closet (there's a closet outside the door that is empty and the same size as the one in the other room, and there is a standing clothes rack for the room).
Pictures are available upon request. Contact: Christopher Bennett 8cjb7@queensu.ca
