#18: The Big Sick

I'm writing this introduction in the parking lot of a COVID-19 testing center. Definitely not ideal, but it is what it is. At least, it spices up my writing process, and it's a change of scenery (not a pretty view though).

My entire family tested positive for COVID-19...except for me. Like most people I've told so far, you probably have a lot of questions.

FAQs:
1) Is your family okay?
Thankfully, they are all doing okay. My family is very lucky. They have some symptoms. They all have mild cases and seem to be doing better already.

2) Are you home with them?
Yes, the day I moved back home (for the foreseeable future) we found out my mom tested positive for COVID. I'm self-isolating – eating separately from my family and wearing a mask inside.

3) How did they get it?
They were all social distancing and wearing masks, and they still got COVID. We aren't 100% sure how they got it, but we have a few ideas. My family's key takeaway: if you or a family member has COVID, please do the responsible thing and tell people. It's the right thing to do.

4) How are you doing?
I'm good, a little bit lonely. I miss human interaction! I'm just grateful my family is okay. I hope I don't get COVID too. We shall see...

All of this is to say...WEAR A MASK. I'm very grateful to have access to good healthcare, but that isn't the case for everyone. Below I've included some graphics about why wearing a mask is anti-racist.

If you're new to my newsletter, I promise that not all of my introductions are like this one. I recommend checking out past issues by clicking the button at the 🔝! All good reads :)

Brand Crush of the Week 💜
Brightland – authentic olive oils (and now vinegars). 70% of the olive oil we consume in the U.S. is already rotten or rancid. Founded in 2018 by Aishwarya Iyer, Brightland champions California made, extra virgin olive oil and promotes honest food production. I love the design of the physical bottle (a striking resemblance to the Haus bottle – maybe the manufacturer).
