Friday Update

7 August 2020
Apologies for the hiatus in Friday updates, we were sidetracked in organising the last part of our business to re-open. We welcomed our first guests to the holiday cottages last week which meant lots of extra cleaning and re-arranging things to make it safe for all. The families that have visited have been grateful to be able to stay in such a beautiful area of the country, which made the extra work worthwhile. We will be closing the cottages again over the winter months to allow us to concentrate on the farm shop.

Ivy House Farm Dairy
This family-run, Somerset dairy provides us with organic milk, cream and butter made with milk from their Jersey cows. It is all utterly delicious, but our favourite is the double cream. Don't be fooled if you have only used supermarket double cream - this is very thick, a beautiful creamy colour (rather than white) with a slightly sweet flavour. If you are after something less thick, then choose the pouring cream. As well as cream, we stock their whole, semi-skimmed and skimmed milk (1 pint and 1 litre sizes) and their butter.
There is a lovely page on the Ivy House website all about the Bowles family ("Every Bowles in the south west has done a stint bottling milk or potting up cream") and their beautiful cows.
Click the button below for a simple pudding which showcases the cream beautifully. NB: If using double cream, whip very lightly as it is so thick.

Moores Biscuits
Moore's Biscuits have been on our shelves for 20 years (not literally - that would be one long best before date!). The iconic Dorset brand was established in 1880 and is probably best known for making Dorset Knobs. However, it is the biscuits that are most popular - a really satisfying and "moorish" treat at coffee time. Alongside the everyday range, we also stock Moores Barley & Oat Crumbles, fruit cakes, tins of biscuits and granola.
Wilja Potatoes
We are now digging Washingpool WIlja potatoes. As the lovely owner of The Hideaway at Kingsland Farm commented recently "If you know, you know."
It is still quite early in the season, so although you can buy them by the bag (25kg or 10kg), they will only keep a couple of weeks. If you want to buy for longer storage you will need to wait until September. Otherwise, buy loose potatoes as you need them. Great flavour and a good all-rounder, from boiled to chips.
