Additional History Alive Program Scheduled at Chateau de Morès State Historic Site

MEDORA, N.D. – Local actor, Luke Larson, will take the spotlight as he portrays the Marquis de Morès on Aug. 10-11 at the Chateau de Morès State Historic Site. The free History Alive program, combining history and theatre art, will take place at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on the Chateau veranda. Visitors are asked to follow the CDC's recommendations on social distancing and personal hygiene while visiting state historic sites. 

Larson has been portraying the Marquis at Medora venues since 2017. The historical actor says he finds this type of interpretation exhilarating and has worked hard to make it his own, saying "I enjoy sharing the Marquis' story is because he is in the shadow of Theodore Roosevelt. As the Marquis, I get more opportunity to surprise people with stories they were not aware of before."

Additional upcoming History Alive programs at the Chateau de Morès include a 98-year-old veteran of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) portrayed by Ed Sahlstrom on Aug. 8-9 and Sept. 5. Sahlstrom will relate experiences of the CCC as it restored the Marquis de Morès’ Chateau from 1939 to 1941. Portrayed by Lance Rustand, the Marquis de Morès will again appear at the Chateau the weekends of Aug. 15-16 and Aug. 29-30, sharing his dreams of a beef empire in the frontier Medora of the 1880s. Portrayed by Karen Nelson, Madame de Morès (Medora) will appear at the Chateau Aug. 22-23, presenting a retrospective of her time in western Dakota Territory during the summers of 1883-1886, as well as her life following her return to France.

Chateau de Morès is a state historic site managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota.
