Care Homes Report

Over the last five months, care homes have had to work incredibly hard to continue to provide a safe and supportive environment to their residents during unprecedented conditions.

In May, we conducted an initial telephone survey speaking with 31 local residential and nursing homes to identify whether they had any concerns caused by the pandemic.

This second report, carried out in July, is an updated response highlighting any changes in the original report. We have also taken the opportunity to look at the accessibility and range of available GP support as an additional area.

Have you been discharged from hospital recently?

During the coronavirus pandemic, the usual processes that hospitals follow to discharge people from their care changed to help free up beds. We want to know how this is working for patients and their loved ones.

Working with the British Red Cross, we will be collecting people's stories of hospital discharge through a dedicated survey over the next four weeks. We will be sharing this data back with you at the end of August so that you can understand more about people’s experiences of hospital discharge in your area.

Have your say on the Growth of Redbridge

In 2018, The Growth Commission worked with over 1,600 residents to agree to a 'Brave New Towns' approach, which would grow the borough in a balanced and sustainable way.  Since then, housing targets set for the borough have increased by 75% and there is more pressure than ever to deliver new homes.
We understand that what is coming ahead can be perceived as uncertain and residents can be worried.  But we also know that growth isn't just about new homes, but all of the things we need in our communities: jobs, businesses, green spaces, schools, sustainability, transport and more.

Update from Barking Havering and Redbridge University Trust Hospitals

Screening at King George Hospital
All outpatients and visitors arriving at the hospital will be screened, to help reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission. Patients and visitors will be taken to a private area and will be asked to have their temperature checked and to answer a few questions. If symptoms of Covid-19 are identified, they will be advised to go home and self-isolate and get a test. Their appointment will be cancelled and rebooked for two weeks’ time.

Outpatient appointments
Until the end of August, when there'll be another review, a number of routine face-to-face outpatient appointments will be postponed but the most clinically urgent cases will still be going ahead.

Endoscopy services have restarted at Queen's Hospital
To ensure patients are kept safe, the latest national guidance, such as new decontamination processes are being followed.

Gynaecology
Planned gynaecology procedures - hysteroscopies and colposcopies will now be delivered at King George Hospital. Emergency gynaecology, complex elective inpatients and general non-procedural outpatients will take place at Queen’s Hospital.

Frailty Unit at King George Hospital for the frail and the elderly
The unit aims to get patients home the same day. It has ambulatory assessment bays which allow patients to be assessed in special recliner chairs rather than beds where possible, making it easier for frail patients, and also means they can stay in their own clothes which is more comfortable for them.
