GES Colloquium

Tuesdays 12-1PM, Zoom Info

Welcome to the Genetic Engineering and Society Center’s Fall Colloquium.

We have all been adapting to our rapidly changing world and colloquium has been evolving with you. We have a diverse and exciting lineup of speakers to spark dialogue on topics from environmental justice, pink chickens and the latest developments in emerging genetic technologies. Please join us August 11th for the opening of fall colloquium with a discussion on Covid19 Immunity Passports and DIY Vaccines.

While we miss congregating in person, current realities will require everyone to participate and register via zoom. University rules will not allow anyone who is not a registered student in “GES 591 (002) Fall 2020 Special Topics in Genetic Engineering and Society” to enter Poe 202.

We look forward to when we can all meet again in person. Until then, we will see you in the Zoom Universe.

Biotechnology Could Change the Cattle Industry. Will it Succeed?

Dyllan Furness, Undark, August 5, 2020
While the presence of antibiotic-resistant plasmid genes in beef probably does not pose a direct threat to consumers, according to Jennifer Kuzma, a professor of science and technology policy and co-director of the Genetic Engineering and Society Center at North Carolina State University, it does raise the possible risk of introducing antibiotic-resistant genes into the microflora of people’s digestive systems.
