August issue now available!

Tropical Storm Isaias was passing through the Cape Region with heavy rains and very strong winds Aug. 4 when we were scheduled to build this month's paper. Fortunately, Lewes wasn't hit by the tornadoes that touched down in Delaware and the sun was shining by the time we sent pages to the printer later that day. Cape Gazette's Visitors' Guide made it to newsstands by Thursday morning as usual!

Candy is dandy here at the beach

By Rehoboth Foodie
One of the longtime sugar-centric staples in Rehoboth Beach is Snyder’s Candy. Jeff Balk’s pride & joy was honored by Every Day with Rachael Ray Magazine and Food Network Magazine, and it’s easy to figure out why: Jeff stocks his store with row upon row of sugary memory makers, including those delightful multicolored licorice pastilles. (Think of Good & Plentys, but way smaller so you can fit more into your mouth.) He also specializes in a wide variety of imported licorice. Snyder’s keeps some of the old favorites in stock, like Black Jack and Teaberry gum (depending on the time of year), Sky Bars, Necco Wafers, Squirrel Nut Zippers and Mary Janes.

Just a few steps west, Michigan-based franchisor Kilwins has been making people smile since 1947, and they make, in-house, what I believe to be the best caramel in town.

RAL 47th Annual Outdoor Fine Art & Fine Craft Show goes virtual

The Rehoboth Art League’s 47th Annual Outdoor Fine Art & Fine Craft Show is featuring 100 fine artists' work through RAL’s website, social media, and other virtual venues through Sunday, Aug. 9.

Artists will maintain the tradition of demonstrating their techniques and discussing their creative inspiration, all online through the league’s website, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube platforms. This year’s virtual event represents artists from places including Connecticut, New York, Tennessee and Florida, as well as favorite local and regional faces.

Each year, the Rehoboth Art League raffles off a piece of artwork generously donated by an artist from the outdoor show. This year Philadelphia-based painter David Oleski has donated his painting “Three Green Apples” for the raffle, with the proceeds benefiting RAL’s exhibitions and educational programs.
