Dear Colleagues,

We invite you to join us for a special virtual convening next week August 11th from 9am-12pm titled, “Leveraging the Moment for Innovation in Ed Prep.”

Given the complexities of supporting candidates during this time, we heard from you, our Ed Prep field, that it would be beneficial to have additional spaces for collaboration with one another. The Ed Effectiveness Team is excited to host the Leveraging the Moment for Innovation in Ed Prep (virtual) convening to allow members of the Ed Prep field an opportunity to come together to work through challenges and brainstorm ideas/approaches/solutions together.

We are excited to welcome Tasha Jones, a current PK-12 educator and activist, to the Ed Prep space as our keynote speaker at the convening. Tasha's keynote, "Moral Imperative," will address the urgency of this moment. We hope you can join us for the keynote session to hear Tasha's message. Tasha Jones will also lead a breakout session at the convening, “Using Data-Informed Instruction to Engage Remotely.”

Following the keynote session, the convening will consist of breakout sessions deemed as “challenge spaces” with different topics for consideration.

We know that preparing candidates for PK-12 classrooms will require that we think differently and adapt our approaches to respond to the needs of our PK-12 field. The complications of beginning school this Fall against the backdrop of COVID-19 and ongoing systemic injustices require attentiveness to candidates and PK-12 students, in particular Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), to ensure we are actively anti-racist and do not exacerbate the harm that BIPOC already experience.

While this year has been particularly challenging, we can leverage the moment to further innovate in educator preparation. These challenge spaces will be open-ended opportunities for us to work through some problems of practice together. We will pose some guiding questions for consideration in each space. The challenge space session facilitators will not present content given these spaces are designed for active dialogue and collaboration between members across different organizations. Our field brings a lot of innovative ideas and expertise, and with the opportunity to step back and think differently across organizations, we will ultimately be better together. We hope you can join us on Tuesday!

Please forward this opportunity to colleagues who may be interested. Register for the convening here by 9am EST August 10th: https://bit.ly/2C2pCcM

In solidarity,
The Ed Effectiveness Team

Keynote
Tasha Jones

Tasha Jones is an educator, writer, leader, creator, scholar, artist, poet, and mother who inherently arrives in any arena as her full self, assiduous, nuanced, and genius. Her thought process, the way she marries two distant unlikelies in a perfect union, speaks to her natural ability to communicate and inquire of those she elicits an answer. As an educator, Jones exudes the same concentration to language and growth. She teaches with energy that both demand attention and engagement. Her ability to transform the learning environment for both parents and students with the data to support has escalated her to the front of the class. Tasha Jones is intrinsically invested in seeking, speaking, and teaching the truth with an authentic commitment to a diverse curriculum that nullifies existing stereotypes while providing culturally homogenous, educational system.

Tasha Jones will also lead a breakout session at the convening titled, “Using Data-Informed Instruction to Engage Remotely.”
