 Tracks Through Time

In 1901, the Northport Traction Company was formed with the backing from the Long Island Rail Road and the Edward Thompson Company for the purpose of building and operating a trolley line. The grand opening ceremony of the trolley was haled on April 17, 1902, amid much excitement. A two-man crew outfitted in uniforms and large-brimmed hats made 14 stops along the route from the railroad station to the terminal on Woodbine Avenue.
The trolley was a constant in Northport for 22 years.

Got Power?
Tropical Storm Isaias tore through Northport on Tuesday, leaving behind a trail of toppled trees and downed wires. Many residents have been left in the dark for most of the week.
As you can see from these historic photos, Northport has seen its share of storms!

COMING SOON!
Did you know that the Northport Historical Society’s museum building was originally the Northport Public Library?
Meet Peter Gambino, our summer intern. He’s been working hard to fill the shelves of our new Library Corner. Watch for more updates!
The dedicated staff at the Museum is currently working on restoring part of the gallery into a Library Corner. When complete, it will serve as a space for the public to browse our local history library, conduct research, and access over 10,000 museum collection items, including documents and photos, online.

Visit the Information Booth at the Park
