Letter from President Eisgruber on the University’s efforts to combat systemic racism

President Christopher L. Eisgruber has written to the University community to outline the next steps the University administration will take to address systemic racism at Princeton and beyond. An update and overview of Princeton University’s ongoing efforts to combat systemic racism is published on the University's homepage.

Wantchekon leads new effort to propel Black students into top economics Ph.D. programs

Wantchekon, a professor of politics and international affairs, is bringing his experience building academic pipelines in Africa to universities in the United States. This month, he announced a new partnership between ASE and Hunter College in New York City that, through a collaboration with Princeton University, will take direct aim at the underrepresentation of Black and minority students in the field of economics.

To enhance and support the academic, social and community development of underrepresented students during their studies, Princeton University’s Graduate School established the Graduate Scholars Program (GSP)

Since the launch of the Princeton Online Tutoring Network (POTN) in April, volunteer tutors from the University community have led more than 600 virtual tutoring sessions with K-12 students from underrepresented groups.

 
Princeton’s #TellUsTigers Instagram series, now in its fifth year, captures first-person stories that open up the diverse inner worlds of Princetonians. 

This summer, the Princeton University Materials Academy (PUMA) welcomed 15 New Jersey high school students from underrepresented backgrounds for a three-week summer program that focused on materials science and engineering.

The two will discuss how class divides on campus create barriers to academic success—and share what schools can do to truly level the playing field.

Survey suggests colleges can do more to equip students to engage with religious diversity. Students from some religious groups find campus more welcoming and supportive than others.
