Monthly U.S. Mail Packet for UUCPA Children and Youth

By Dan Harper on Aug 06, 2020 09:03 am

Each child, PreK through grade 8, will receive a monthly packet via U.S. mail from UUCPA. This packet will include fun puzzles, games, and coloring pages. Packets will also contain some serious material as well, some of it designed to coordinate with the weekly Story for All Ages in the Sunday service.

The first monthly packet will be mailed out the week of August 9th; because it’s still summer, this first packet will contain mostly fun material. Please register so that we make sure we have you on our list.

Intergenerational Water Communion Water Drop-off – Aug 12 & Aug 23, 2020

By Amy Zucker Morgenstern on Aug 06, 2020 09:02 am

The annual Water Communion service will be on August 30 this year. We hope you can participate in this annual ritual of ingathering. To share, bring a small amount of water (think pill bottle size) to UUCPA on Wednesday, August 12, 12:30-2 pm and Sunday, August 23, 12:30-2 pm.

  • Securely shut and attach a label with your names and a word or phrase you would like to guide you over the next year to your container. If there are multiple members of the family, you can choose one word for all of you, or one each.
  • Then put on your masks, and come through the “drive-through” (bike-through, walk-through) behind Room D, my office. I’ll be waiting there to collect your bottles, and looking forward to seeing you!

During the ritual in the August 30 service, all the waters and words will be poured into the communal bowl.

If you can’t bring water, please send your names and words to Amy at parishmin@uucpa.org by that August 23 drop-off date. We’ll share your words as well, as we pour in a little bit of sweet Hetch Hetchy water.

Sunday school will begin on Sept. 13, a month later than usual. This gives Children and Youth Religious Education Committee and Dan a few extra weeks to finish developing online curriculum.

Please register! The registration form can be found on our website.

Two Sunday school time slots this year

By Dan Harper on Aug 06, 2020 08:59 am

As we did in the spring, we’re going to keep offering classes for different age groups at different times. Families have told us this makes it easier for them.

Red class (preschool) and Green class (gr. 2-3) will happen from 9:30-10:15, before the worship service.

Yellow class (gr. K-1), Blue class (gr. 4-5), Neighboring Faith Communities (gr. 6-8), and Ecojustice class (gr. 6-8) will happen from 11:45 to 12:30.

Your feedback on this is welcome! And we can be flexible — we can put your child where it works best. Email Dan Harper danharper@uucpa.org with feedback, or to figure out how to make this work for your family.

The popular Coming of Age program for grades 8-10 will be offered this year on Sunday evenings from 7-8 p.m., beginning in December.

There will be a family meeting, for both youth and their parents, on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 7:00 p.m. More details will be in next month’s newsletter.

Family check-in gathering before intergenerational Water Communion on August 30, 2020

By Dan Harper on Aug 06, 2020 08:57 am

This year, Dan Harper will host family check-in gatherings before intergenerational services. This is a chance for kids to see and interact with their UUCPA friends, and also to learn a little bit about what to look for in the upcoming intergenerational service.

On Sunday, Aug. 30, the first family check-in will happen, from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. Watch the weekly CYRE email for the Zoom meeting info.

Our 4 Big Educational Goals

  1. Have fun and feel part of a community
  2. Gain basic religious literacy
  3. Learn skills associated with liberal religion (public speaking, singing, basic leadership, interpersonal skills, etc.)
  4. Prepare children to become UU adults, should they choose to do so when they're old enough to make their own decisions
