🌻Summer In Harrogate & Knaresborough🌞

We are half way through the Summer Holiday's - how did that happen! Are you managing to keep busy? How are your Mini Mumblers coping?

We've got lots of useful blogs to give you ideas on where to go and what to do, including the top 10 places to picnic!

The government Eat Out to Help Out scheme has been launched and it's a great way to get out and support local (see the next section below for more details).

The easing of lockdown has changed again since our last newsletter.
Pubs and restaurants, barbers and hairdressers, gyms, fitness centres and indoor pools have now re-opened or are planning to re-open. You can also now go abroad on holiday to certain destinations without having to quarantine for 14 days upon returning to the UK.

Here at Harrogate Mumbler, we are doing our best to provide you with the latest information about what is going on in the local area and community and how to keep those mini mumblers busy and engaged.

We are also updating our website with any places we have visited to give you an idea of what they are like post lockdown. What covid-19 measures have been put in place, what are the restrictions and do you need to book? These are the sort of questions we are endeavouring to discover the answers to.

We also want to say a huge T H A N K  Y O U to everyone who took the time to nominate in the Harrogate Mumbler Love Local Awards 2020. All the lovely comments have brought so much cheer to so many people and really show how much wonderful community spirit Harrogate has.

Love from Sally, Kate, Kayti & Evie at Harrogate Mumbler x

Eat Out to Help Out

The Eat Out to Help Out Scheme in Harrogate & Knaresborough opened on 3rd August and will run until 31st August 2020, every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at participating establishments.

How does it work?

You’ll get a 50% discount on food or non-alcoholic drinks to eat or drink in (up to a maximum of £10 discount per diner), which you can use as many times as you like!  You won’t need a voucher to use this scheme and you can use it at the same time as other offers and discounts. There is no minimum spend.  All diners in a group of any size can use the discount.  This could mean a saving of up for £40 on an £80 bill for a family of four!  Available only for dining in – no take aways!

You cannot claim discount on alcoholic drinks or service charges.  The discount will be automatically available to you at participating establishments. Establishments will then claim a reimbursement from the government for the discount they’ve given you.

We’ve listed all the restaurants currently participating in the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme in Harrogate and Knaresborough (both within a 5 mile radius) as well as some Mumbler favourites a bit further a field!  Chain restaurants might not be included in the list, but to see who is participating click here  But you know us – we love a local indie – so please support them if you can!  To search other areas please click here.

Mumbler have recently partnered up with The Week Junior magazine, and we couldn’t be happier to tell you all about it.
We’ve actually been buying the magazine ourselves for about 5 months & we absolutely love it. It’s an award-winning magazine, aimed at children aged 8-14 years old.

We originally subscribed for my eldest daughter, she is 11 years old. She loves that fact that the magazine gets delivered addressed especially to her each Friday (without any plastic wrapping- she’s well-aware of environmental issues!) and she devours each issue cover to cover.

Rather than review The Week Junior myself, I thought I’d let my daughter Tilly (11 years) tell you about it in her own words.

Kayti recently tried a monthly subscription from Bare and Bond.

Here are a few highlights from the blog;

▪️Bare & Bond partner with independent micro-perfumeries to give customers incredible artisan perfume that they'd never find on the High Street
▪️"We are reinvesting the way perfume is given as a gift" 🎁
▪️Their boxes are 100% recyclable ♻️
▪️They off-set emissions by planting trees 🌳
▪️The perfume is all vegan 🌱

And some quotes from Kayti;
💜We were kindly gifted one to try - such a treat
💜Gorgeous packaging
💜Beautiful smell
💜Thumbs up from the daughter
💜Fits in your handbag perfectly
💜You try perfumes you wouldn't necessarily buy and find hidden gems

Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal, National Trust

Covid-19 Update:

Reopened on Monday 8 June. To help you have a safe visit, they’re asking everyone to book in advance to access the abbey and water garden.
Please note, Studley Car Park will remain closed.

Take part in your biggest ever game of hide and seek on your visit to Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal. Hide in all corners of the large abbey ruins before following the river to the water garden. Race around the moon ponds, see the swans swimming and discover the winding dark tunnel. Emerge from the tunnel to find three fun buildings called follies along this woodland path.

Be sure to have a playground adventure.
There are things to wobble along, jump over and climb on…you’ll find a wooden abbey,
a woodland house, scramble nets and posts, swings, fireman’s poles,
a slide, a roundabout, a gigantic rope bridge and
a huge zip wire for the most daring adventurers of all.

There’s lots to do but don’t worry if you can’t fit it all in this time – we’ll be here another day! Become a member on your first visit and come back for free as many times as you like. Plus, get the feel-goods about it as every time you scan your membership card, you’re contributing towards the essential conservation work we do.
