Welcome to the Oregon Region's
August 2020 Newsletter!

I hope you are all enjoying your summer and staying safe as we navigate the COVID pandemic. Although many events have been cancelled or modified I am hoping we can put a positive spin on the restrictions - maybe it's an opportunity to really focus on improving your pony’s ground manners, their trailering issues, or their stiff left canter circle.

Please take a moment to fill out this form about diversity and inclusion within our region. As a board, we acknowledge the inherited systemic racism that exists in Pony Club and want to provide more inclusion for black, brown and indigenous people.

Diversity and inclusion in pony club form

Currently we are still planning on holding a mega certification for D3 - C2 on Sunday September 20 at Meadows Vineyard in Halsey. We will, of course, adhere to State requirements and restrictions regarding COVID such as social distancing, mask wearing and hand washing. We are also holding a volunteer work party the day before, on Saturday September 19, at Meadows Vineyard (see Tracy Stout's submission about the work party below). All members are encouraged to join in for this event; if you are also going to do the mega certification on Sunday Sept 20th you will be able to haul in early and have a stall for your horse on Saturday.

Here is the mega certification sign up form - PLEASE make sure you have talked with your DC/CA before filling it in as all certifications have to be OK’d by your club’s leader. Entries close on September 4 and after that date there are no refunds, except with a doctor or vet note.

Volunteer Opportunities

~ Tracy Stout, VRS: Volunteer Coordinator ~

Happy August Pony Club Family! I hope this newsletter finds you enjoying your summer. As you may or may not know, one of the events that is actually still scheduled for this fall is the Oregon Region Mega Certification on Sunday September 20th at Meadows Vineyard. In preparation for this, we are holding a region wide Volunteer Work Party the day before the certification (Saturday September 19th) to help get Naomi's property in shape and ready for all the candidates. We would love for as many of you as possible to come down and lend a hand doing tasks such as setting up stadium jumps, minor repairs to XC jumps, and other general clean up tasks. You do not need to be going to the certification to help out. Just bring a facemask, work gloves if you have them, closed toe shoes or boots, sunscreen, snacks for yourself and your reusable water bottle. If you are planning on certifying, you may haul in Saturday and help clean up once you get your horse settled. It should be a rewarding day of community work that Naomi will greatly appreciate as it is a lot of work to host events at her beautiful property. Plus, it is a reason to see each other in person (from a safe distance of course)! More information about the Work Party will follow so watch out for that. In the meantime if you have any questions for me, feel free to reach out! I hope to see many of you soon. Take care!

As always, feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns (oregonregionboard@gmail.com, Subject line: Volunteer Coordinator). Thanks in advance for your help!

Region Finances

~ Sabrina McDermott, Treasurer ~

We are looking for a new treasurer for 2021!

Thanks for hanging in this crazy Covid year! Lots of behind the scenes planning going on to try to make our next events great, whenever they may be. An email went to DC/CA/Treasurers this week. We adjusted the Quiz Rally budget to reflect 2019 Rally excess funds according to the motions at the Fall Meeting. And with so many more members attending Quiz this year, we had more excess... So REFUND checks will be sent to CLUB Treasurers. It'll be up to Clubs to disperse/save/use.

Emails will go out to DC/CA/Treasurers for any outstanding Region dues this month. Please double check your books, while I check mine. If you know you haven't paid for members this year, please do so, $45. We know this year is a bit of a bust, and we will discuss 2021 Region Dues at the Fall Meeting. Please continue to hang in there! Please note, since Inavale One Days were canceled, we lost half our operating budget for 2020. We count on our yearly Region Dues to pay for Corporate fees and office overhead. Please make all checks payable to ORUSPC.

Treasurers! Now is a great time to catch up on your documentation. Get any outstanding Club dues collected. Check your 1099 lists. Make lists for end of year paperwork. If you have any issues with Central Finance, please be in touch. We can meet via Zoom, I am available by phone, email as well.

If anyone is interested in being the Region Treasurer for 2021, please contact the Nominating Committee. And feel free to contact me and maybe do some Zoom shadowing while I do the usual treasurer duties. It'll make a smooth transition!

Enjoy your summer!!

CLUB NEWS

High Lakes PC:  High Lakes Pony Club has been able to host several mounted meetings at Stephanie Parker's facility this summer and it would appear that the eventing bug has been contagious! The club participated in 2 one day camps at Meadows Vineyard on August 1 and 2nd and were very grateful to Naomi, Ailis, Grace, Chloe and Ashley for their instruction and guidance. We had 3 non-members join us for camp - Camden, Shane and Avery and we hope they may join our fun club soon!

Highland Riders PC:  Congrats to Natalia, McKenzie, and Rory on earning their D1 certification this month!

Iron Horse RC:  Iron Horse had a few certifications this past month. Maya completed her D2/D3 EV riding portion, Hannah completed her D3 EV and Riley, Jersi, and Jenny completed their D2 EV. Congratulations to all the work that they put in and to everyone who made the certification possible! We are looking forward to have a meeting on Riding Attire for Certifications/Rallies that will feature Kerrits Clothing, who is a new Official Sponsor of the United States Pony Club! We are also planning more activities for the fall as we don't plan on doing any showing and can focus all our attention on our Riding Center.

Oregon Trail PC:  Oregon Trail and Rose City have recently joined forces and entered two full teams into the NW Region's Virtual Dressage Rally! The members were responsible for setting up a dressage court, learning the math and geometry of proper placement of the court, as well as good old fashioned elbow grease and hard work to clean and decorate the entire court! With proper social distancing, they created a very attractive and professional looking ring in which to ride and video their tests! The two clubs then used a virtual unmounted meeting to start a study session to brush up on facts and details of the horse management portion of the rally, which will happen on August 10th. Best of luck to the riders and stable managers on competing in their very first virtual rally! Best of all, members and parents of both clubs have spent many hours giving back to the trainer who allowed them to take over her arena, by cleaning up the property; weeding, pond clearing, raking, weed whacking and many other tasks have been done. Thank you Rose City and Oregon Trail members for such mammoth efforts in the past few weeks - you are the best pony clubbers!

Rise Up Riding Center:  Rise Up hosted a fun two-day camp for our members. We had a blast! Thank you to Grace Wagner, Amanda Bollhorst and Ashley Lanning for leading and assisting. The members practiced dressage, jumping, played Mounted Games, learned Vaulting and made noodle horses. What a fantastic way to get together this summer!
