Welcome Back to Campus!

As the Fall semester kicks off, it’s great to see friendly faces again, even while partially covered by masks. In this issue of CoE Cares we will be covering topics from home schooling while teleworking, to parking updates, campus dining, and more. Again, welcome back!
Staff member Lori Federico and her children

Staff Spotlight: Lori Federico on teleworking with kids

Lori Federico is a working mom, gracefully balancing teleworking, while also entertaining and managing her two kids as they return to virtual school this fall.

Lori learned a few things when the pandemic started in March, as everyone had to scramble to adjust to the ‘new normal.’ From her home in Kirkwood, she provides a few tips for working parents to help juggle everything that comes with teleworking with school-age children in the house.

Parking and Transportation Updates

With some people teleworking, there are many questions around parking permits. For others, getting around campus will look a little different with bus route and trolley changes. Here’s all you need to know >>

Eating on Campus: Semester Dining Options

The number one focus of Dining Services is to ensure that we take every possible precaution to protect the safety and welfare of the students and guests who visit our facilities. Here you will see the following changes in our locations this semester >>

More Homeschooling Tips and Resources

From Lauren Kennedy in Development:
  • Set a schedule for your kids and stick to it. Not just for schoolwork and online learning, but also for daily activities (music, art, tech club, sports/recess) and age appropriate chores. Having a routine that your child can depend on is important.
  • Take time for family lunch whenever you can – it gives everyone a break from electronics and a chance to interact with each other face to face.

Decorate a Mask Contest

It’s important to take a few moments to laugh with each other during these challenging times. For those of you that want to have some fun with a mask, get creative with the CoE Decorate a Mask Contest.* Please submit photos of your masks to Dawn Franklin (selfies encouraged!) by mid-September and we will announce the winner in the next newsletter.

*Please note that masks for contest submission should be used for decorative purposes only and not worn, as any alteration to the mask could hinder the protective measures and integrity of the mask.
