Delivering Food, Sharing Christ

Over the past month or so, we’ve connected with eight different churches and ministries from the area to help supply needy families with over 6,000 pounds of food with more deliveries to come! By connecting with local churches (as well as delivering some of the food packets to families we are directly connected with) we are putting the emphasis on reaching out to help hungry families by helping activate outreaches through local churches!
Thanks to generous support for the food project, we've delivered over 10,000 meals-worth of food. Check out the video above to see more! We’ve gotten reports back of thankful families, people accepting the Lord, and lots of prayer as people are looking to Christ as the provider of these supplies.
Thank you to all of you who helped support this project!
Please pray for these families to connect with Christ and strength for the local church as we continue deliveries.

Training Local Church Leaders

About a month ago, youth leaders from a nearby church asked us if we would help train them on using technology and communications tools and skills for the church.
With some basic training on video editing and design tools, they are off to a great start.
Now Michael is working with them on project planning to help with their efforts to equip the young people of their community with discipleship and practical life skills as well (A fun brainstorming session with the church youth leaders above).
These leaders are excited about training up local believers and discipling the young people in their community and we're excited to see how God uses their efforts to disciple a new generation in their rural community. Read more here...

Online courses keep Bible classes running

In what normally would be in-person classes, Michael is video teaching (screenshot above) the second part of the Life and Ministry of Christ class with ASELSI -- the local ministry we've been working with for nearly nine years. There are 16 students in this 12-week class for first-year students studying in ASELSI's Bible classes. More students are studying in the other three levels of classes. Due to COVID-19 restrictions all ASELSI Bible classes are held in digital formats. Video and online programs allow us to continue training and equipping these dedicated students. Students at ASELSI can continue their studies up to an associates degree level and eventually transfer to a university for further studies.

Update on the Adventures Book

In the longer-than-we-thought-it-would-take-but-worth-it editing process for the children's curriculum and resource book we are writing, we got our 10 prototypes back from the printer (some shown above) and out to key people who are editing and/or giving feedback. So far, the response has been very positive from the teachers, children's ministers, and parents we showed it to. We're excited to see this project to completion. When finished, the Adventures in The Bible, the book, worksheets and coloring pages will be available free online and also in printed form. We plan to do training for children's ministers and produce smaller selections in booklets for kids and schools.
Please pray with us that this will help equip and disciple children to know God's Word and put it into action.

COVID-19 Restrictions Continue

Restrictions with nightly curfews (9 p.m. - 4 a.m.) and every municipality having it's own color-coded level of restrictions across Guatemala have made things not always clear about whether things are getting better or worse when it comes to COVID-19 in Guatemala. Recently our local community had it's first confirmed cases and sadly a related death.  Please pray for the people of Guatemala to put their trust in the Lord and not live in the fear that uncertainty of these times brings. We're getting back to (home)school!

Our oldest three kids were blazing through their studies during the last school year, so we took a summer break which ended up being almost exclusively a home-bound experience, but still a fun time of gardening adventures for the kids.
Thanks to the help of several people involved in transporting boxes of booklets from the U.S., our new curriculum arrived here in Chichicastenango!
This week we started the new school year that will include a formal Spanish class (they already speak Spanish, but we want to get more comprehensive!).
Please pray for a smooth transition back into a fun season of learning.
