Workshops      ~     Celebrations     ~      Festivals      ~     Gatherings
The secret is to never lose sight of the simple, everyday miracles in life. Good food, literature, laughter, music, compelling conversation, nature, and art. Look for them in every day and even when it feels like your whole world is unravelling, you will never be too far from a needle and thread.
-  Beau Taplin

Greetings
And what a blessing it was to spend a day with Pema Chodron in our ‘Good Medicine’ video workshop last month, sending loving kindness to oneself and then sending it out on the breath to others. Good medicine indeed! Thank you to the ten wonderful people who attended. If there is enough interest I would be happy to run this workshop again on Sunday November 15.

SEPTEMBER ushers in a celebration of our Moon Sisters at Full Moon on Wednesday 2 and we have a special Spring Equinox ceremony at Stonehenge Aotaroa on Sunday 20.

OCTOBER
starts with a sweet Honey Moon on Friday 2;  offers another ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll’ Wheel of Segais workshop to open our hearts in the Quadrant of Spring on Sunday 11; and finishes with Beltane at 7pm on Saturday 31.

The Woolshed awaits your wonderful presence.
Love, light and laughter

Would Grove members please confirm as soon as possible, if you haven’t already, if you will be attending and the whanau and guests you will be bringing to: Moira baggage@actrix.co.nz. This is important as Covid-19 conditions may mean that places for members of the public might need to be limited.

Members of the public will be able to book on line – https://stonehenge-aotearoa.co.nz dependent on the Henge being open and places still available.

The Spring Equinox ceremony of the Druid tradition is known as Alban Eilir – ‘Light of the Earth’. Alban Eilir, at the point of balance between Imbolc and Beltane, as it is at the point of balance between day and night, is a time for festivity and celebration for it marks the beginning of a new phase, the beginning of the triumph of light.

In Druidry, Spring is considered so important that three festivals are dedicated to this season: Imbolc, marking the first stirrings of Spring, Alban Eilir marking its more obvious beginning, and Beltane marking the time of its fullness, before it develops into the very different quality of Summer.

In ancient Maori society the rising of the star Aotahi (Canopus) announced the arrival of Spring, together with flowering of kowhai, rangiora and kotukutuku, the plants of the fourth lunar month spanning September and October. This was also a sign for kumara planting to begin. A key event was the return of pipiwharauroa, the shining cuckoo, from its winter stay in Hawaiki, the legendary Pacific homeland of the Maori.

In Europe, Spring Equinox was the festival of Eostre, the Saxon goddess of the dawn and Spring.
WHEEL OF SEGAIS COURSES

The book, ‘Living Treefully’, is nearly there!  Just a final edit and then we’re into the formatting and printing stage.

The Wisdom & Way-Showing Cards are also nearly ready for printing so the book and the cards will make a lovely duo.

The Wheel of Segais is a simple but profound template for understanding the innate nature of the universe and our place within it. It allows us to perceive all that we are and all that we need as we experience the turning of the wheel of the year – the Four Seasons, the 12 streams or stages and the Well of the Salmon of Wisdom, the Well of Segais itself, in the centre.

Just a reminder that we still need to be respectful of physical distance and keep to regular handwashing.  We have plenty of soap and paper towels to make things simple.  If you’re coming to a gathering here you can help too by leaving anything you don’t need for ritual at home or in your car and placing items like car keys and phone in your pocket rather than on a surface.

7pm at The Woolshed

The focus of the evening is one of ‘Exploring the Divine Feminine’ and the role of the Goddess and her ‘workings’ within ourselves and in our lives.

On Wednesday 2 September we will celebrate our Moon Sisters and on Friday 2 October we will honour Aphrodite at Honey Moon.

A contribution to ‘supper’ would be appreciated.

The Full Moon rituals are for women only. If you’re new and would like to attend just give Pamela a call on 027 206 8876.

BELTANE / WHIRINGANUKU /
FLOWERING & SAP RISE

7pm Saturday 31 October
at The Woolshed

Halfway between Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice, this is a high-energy time when the whole earth sings of growth and regeneration.  Birds are nesting, deciduous trees leafing, flowers are blossoming and the increasing sun power quickens both sap and blood. Beltane is often referred to as ‘the night for lovers’!

To the Maori, this was Whiringanuku, the fifth month, when ka whakaniho nga mea katoa o te whenua i konei, ‘all things now put forth fresh growth’. A good flowering of ti kouka (cabbage tree) is said to be a sign that a long, fine summer will follow.

Beltane is the third of the Spring celebrations in the Druid tradition. The invigorating energies of Spring growth are flowing at their strongest through the earth, and through us too.  The two elemental symbols for Beltane are water (healing and the times of the first swim) and fire (‘destroyed the powers hostile to humankind, purified the air, and allowed human and beast and vegetation to thrive and become fertile’)
Bring poems, stories, songs, dances, etc. and wear some greenery or green clothes.  If the weather is kind and we have a fire permit, we will light the Beltane fire.

We will have a Beltane fire and a Grove Meeting prior to the Beltane ceremony and we will have a celebration supper after the ceremony – please bring food to share.

PLEASE NOTE: The Fire Festivals (Beltane, Lughnasadh, Samhuinn and Imbolc) are for members of the Grove of the Summer Stars only. Celebration of both Equinoxes and both Solstices) are open to all and we look forward to welcoming you here.
The Woolshed is a place to celebrate Spirit in Nature and warmly welcomes community participation.  Here we celebrate the turning of the Wheel of the Year in Aotearoa New Zealand by holding Festivals appropriate to the seasons approximately every six weeks.  These are the two Solstices (Winter and Summer), the two Equinoxes (Spring and Autumn) and the four Cross-Quarter Festivals – Imbolc, Beltane, Lughnasadh (when we hold a Druid Camp) and Samhain.  The four Cross-Quarter Festivals are for Grove members only and the Solstices and Equinoxes are open to all who wish to connect with the land and Her tides and times.  We also have a native tree-planting programme and are always keen for offers of help for our frequent ‘working bees’.  Our organic gardens and orchards also respond positively to extra hands.
A women-only group meets monthly on the Full Moon.

Also, if you would like to walk the hills and the bush on the farm then give us a ring –
027 206 8876.  I’m sure we can accommodate you.
