School Reopening Plans are Fluid
Private schools attempting in person, CPS stays remote
The summer months have melted away and schools are marching ahead with reopenings. While many private schools have either hybrid or predominantly in-person plans, CPS announced their all remote Final Reopening Framework last week. CPS plans to open on Sept 8 and at least through the 1st quarter to November has plans for:
- More real time activities for students from PK to 12th
- Attendance taken each day
- Grades assessed for classes
- Small group and peer to peer interactions
- IEP/504 needs addressed

CPS's 2021-2022 Application Process
More details will be released on Sept 14 at Go.CPS.edu
Admissions season is marching forward despite the interrupted times we are in, and CPS has made some decisions on applications for the 2021-2022 school year. Most notable are the key dates:
- October 12, 2020- CPS Applications Open
- December 11, 2020- CPS Applications Close
Non-CPS students can request a Student ID to get ready for the process. When the application opens, families can choose schools and follow directions on next steps and admissions selection criteria. Schools must first be added to an application before scheduling any testing or next steps.
Students who will be 3 years old (Suder & Drummond), 4 years old (Inter-American), 5 years (kindergarten) by Sept. 1, 2021 and those interested in elementary or 9th grade high school programs will need to complete applications this Fall 2020. If selective enrollment entrance testing (gifted, classical, academic centers, SEHS) is needed, in person testing will be done this Winter and eligibility testing will be done prior (see NWEA below).

NWEA MAP Testing Plans Released
Non-CPS students for 5th-9th grade submit form by 9/11
With no students testing this past spring, CPS scrambled to formulate a process for determining NWEA MAP scores for students interested in selective programs for 5th to 9th grade. FAQs here. Website info here. Parent letter here.
- CPS students can choose their best score from 2019 Spring, Fall and Winter tests
- Non-CPS students should register HERE by 9/11/20 for test dates on
- Oct 3, Oct 4, Oct 18 & Oct 24
- Curie, Lane, Lindblom & Westinghouse test sites
- Tests have reading and math sections which can be taken on same day or on two separate days
NWEA Map scores are used to determine eligibility for 5th-9th grade selective programs (minimum of 24 percentile is required) as well as used on the score rubric for 5th-9th grade academic based programs such as Selective Enrollment high schools (SEHS), International Baccalaureate (IB) programs, and more. While details are still thin, there is a possibility that CPS students who want to retake their NWEA MAP tests may do so as well. Check back often at Go.CPS.edu, or Contact Us.
No NWEA Map testing is needed for K-4th grade CPS programs.

Upcoming Virtual Fairs to "See" Schools
Preschool, Resource & High School Fairs will be online
School fairs are a great way for families to see many schools at once. Now, more than ever, it's almost the only way to get a feel for schools to determine which to put on their lists for further review. Both NPN (Preschool & Elementary Fair) and CSG (Hidden Gems High School Fair) have put their longtime Fairs online to provide families with a school search opportunity. NPN's Developmental Differences Resource Fair is also Virtual this year. Mark your calendars for:
