Our focus this month (August 2020)  is on Adoption updates - plenty of feel good stories to read.
Carol and Dean Collin recently carried out a post adoption visit for Goose and here is there feedback:
We had the pleasure to see again the totally amazing Goose. What a change in his life, Goose now has a lovely family with his own GSD sister Missy who he absolutely adores and some little human friends who love him to bits and play games with him. Goose has been exploring the North Yorkshire moors on family walks and digging the odd hole in the garden, but Craig and Kelly forgive him just because he's just perfect.
New Mum, Jo Gore

We've had  Pippa and Polar for 2 weeks now. I just want to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to whoever raised for 7 years such loving, gentle, friendly and fun dogs. They have such a calm and caring nature. Even though it's been blustery weather, they still love chasing each other around the septic tank and Polar loves a dab of eau de fox poo behind the ears. They have settled in so well. Polar loves playing fetch with her ball but Pippa likes to run around with her's and won't play fetch. Uncovering their personalities all the time...

Lovely to see them settling well into their new home, practising to be book ends.
Little Brandy now called Bridie is settling in to her new home. This is what her new mum has to say about her new girl......
Been a baptism of fire!! Haha but we are managing to sleep upstairs now. Courtney was a huge help as she is so messed up bless her; she has bonded with me but is so scared of men; riddled with worms; still trying to sort food out for the other end; on probiotics and slippery elm  but she is putting on weight. Can’t get her out of the gate so trying again this weekend.  Everything has to be done slowly or it sets her back ; she has had a couple of mad 10 mins tearing round the house and garden in glee and has started to give out long groans when she lays down which is lovely. She is gorgeous.

Great news, always love to hear about Bridie, her new mum and dad are doing so well and it sounds like shes got the pawfect new mum. We are so happy that this girl has found her forever home and mum and dad giving her the time and space she needs as well as their love and affection.

Here's proof that force free training works! Yes its slow, its taken us over 2yrs and we still work with Kia every single day. Yes its hard work. Yes you have days thinking why do you bother, as you always seem to take 2 steps back.
But, this is the outcome... a full day at doggy day care, without having to be taken away to chill, and not 1 scrap!
Shes done half days, and we have kennelled her there, which she also did well with, but they know reactives and work along side our trainer so also know what to look out for.
She was a bit clingy once we got her home, and is tired today, but is carrying no stress at all.

Stick with with it! Hard work does pay-off!!
Just look at our girl Meisha now...

This is what her new mum and dad had to say about her

She is the most adorable, beautiful, well behaved and clever little girl, and we love her to bits. The fur over her ‘patch’ seems to grow well and feels like black velvet at the moment. Her coat (after thorough grooming) looks absolutely beautiful now – so much so that she gets smiles and comments like ‘beautiful’ from people across the road and car windows as we walk her.

Meisha had a difficult start in life but she is now loving life, enjoying her walks and playing with her ball in the garden. This is why UK-GSR exists -  to help more dogs like this beautiful girl.
New Mum Many Sutter who adopted Saffy says;
What a girl! We’ve been singing Donovan’s Mellow Yellow to her - anyone remember that? ‘

" I'm just mad about Saffron
Saffron's mad about me
I'm just mad about Saffron
She's just mad about me
They call me mellow yellow
(Quite rightly)
They call me mellow yellow
(Quite rightly)
They call me mellow yellow..."
Charlotte Gande tells the story of Mocha
I’ve loved reading everyone’s stories about their babies, so here’s Mocha’s.
634
634 days since this one came into our lives, grab a cuppa it’s a bit of a long one...
We’d always said we wanted to get a dog, we both come from big dog households. We were sat on our honeymoon in October 2018 when my friend tagged me in her post, she was even in our town. It was like fate. I don’t know if it was the sun, the sea or the free mini bar in our room but hubs agreed to fill out the adoption forms to see how we’d get on.
When we were back, I remember our calls and messages with Yvonne/Anne to have a chat and then Dave coming over for our home check. Less than 4 weeks later, we met this little one in a local park and she was scared, she barked, cowered and lunged at the sight of us but we persevered with the meet and decided it was now or never.
We took her home.
To say this has been an easy ride would be a blatant lie, Mocha was and is complex. Desperate for affection but terrified of contact but we persevered. Excited but scared of anything outside the front door. Scared of shouting, tea towels and anything loud and unfamiliar. She’s trashed the house more than once, annoyed the neighbours with her fence guarding but working with our trainer and behaviourist 121 we persevered and in two weeks she will be attending her very first dog class (albeit on the other side of the field!)
Mocha is not the dog we thought we wanted but boy, is she the dog we needed. We’ve had to think outside of the box on so many things to make her more confident, enrichment games that I’ve never thought of and honestly as melodramatic as it sounds she has made us better people and dog owners.
She would not doubt have been boomerang rescue if we wouldn’t have given her the chance on that November day in the village park but baby girl, both your mamma and daddy will fight for you every step of the way. You’ve got nothing to fear, I will personally bite anyone or anything that comes to try and hurt you!!
Thank you so much to the rescue and everyone who works so hard to make sure that these doggos find their forever homes, we will always be grateful for you bringing this little jerk in to our lives xx
Here's my Molly...

Six months on, and she's coming on in leaps and bound;  full of life, has accepted hubby now and will greet him when he comes home; just loves to play, many zoomies; recall spot on, command wait, sit, stay all brilliant.  Avery loving and happy girl, still a bit shy of other men, but getting there; so much positive in just six months, love this girl.  Melodie Rollings.

This is what your dog will look like after if you have subjected him to being in lounge with Human Mummy, Human Grandma to sit through 3.5 hours of DVD of Mamma Mia ... the film, the outtakes, the bits that were cut out, the how-it-was-mades, the extra songs.
He's a Super Trouper for sitting/laying through it all!!
RESULTS OF 2020 VIRTUAL FUN DOG SHOW

Organised and run by Diane Henson, who had to grapple with over 1,100 entries. and 25 classes, it really was a mammoth effort. Our 2020 #ukgsrvirtualfundogshow was our best yet, raising a whopping £1700.

The overall winner was the Pudney family with this beautiful picture of their family and dogs walking through a field, submitted by Katie Pudney.
Reserve was sleeping beauty Samson, who was captured snoozing on the stairs with his legs all twizzled up a really goregous photo of handsome sleepiness. Michelle Twist Maksymowicz
The winner of the Suzi Wales award was Taten and Amber Jessop

Some dogs come into rescue in a terrible state and their recovery and rehabilitation is astonishing. Amber tells his story:   'Jasper' was found, dumped in Ireland at the start of the year in the most horrendous state. He was filthy, thin and his coat was so awfully matted it was difficult to work out what breed of dog he even was! He was taken in by D.A.W.G Ireland who shaved his coat to the skin, washed and cared for him whilst he regained some of his strength. It was discovered he was epileptic and their vets started him on anti seizure medication straight away. This made him very drowsy. UK-GSR were contacted about taking him in and, like so many extreme cases, Suzanne didn't let him down. As soon as he was well enough to travel, he came over from Ireland to Greenacres rescue in Haverfordwest. The journey however, caused a severe seizure and the staff thought that he may not pull through. The wonderful team there got him the vet care he needed and cared for him over the weekend whilst he recovered. I went to collect him on the Monday and what a sorry state he was...and he had improved! His skin was flaky and sore, he had some stinky, scruffy fur on his head and feet but the rest of him was bald. It took 3 of us to get him into the car as he was too weak to get in himself. I took him to one of our other volunteers homes, Joanna Hunt, who looked after him for a few days. He was very unwell and she started him on some natural remedies to help his stomach. The following week, he came to stay with me. My children instantly loved him, despite the smell! They called him "Taten" ( Welsh for potato as he's a bit daft and a lump lol) as he didn't respond to Jasper. We figured out he can't tolerate grains so, with advice and remedies from Joanna we got on top of his tummy troubles pretty quickly. He settled into new routines well and Molly, our own GSD from UK-GSR began to accept him. Taten’s strength started to improve with suitable foods and supplements and our vet changed his medication to a more suitable one. He is no longer as drowsy as before and has more life in him. He loves a walk with the kids and his doggy friends Pacho & Banzai (Jo's pack), Miss Jones (his aunty Michelle's girl) and his golden lab girlfriend Bailey. He could manage a stiff walk around our small garden at the start, now he can literally climb mountains and canter with the kids. His coat is growing well and now his ears are clean, he can actually hear us and responds to a lot of commands we have taught him.... especially if there’s food involved lol!

Thank you to everyone who took part and made the judging very difficult, we can tell you.
This show came at a time when the team was at a low, and to see you all taking part and getting behind us was uplifting and gives us strength and determination to carry on - we thank you all.

Dave, Super dog said: So I didn’t win any awards but one of my bestest friends in the world did.

Congratulations to the fabulous Amber. Amber will always be a super star to me because she helped bring me to Person but now, everyone knows how wonderful she is.

Amber and her wooftastic family (I know they are, I met her daughter) took on Taten. Taten was in such a poorly state but with love and patience from the Jessops, he’s grown into a lovely dog. Obviously, not as super as me but he’s not far off.

Well done Taten. You may have won an award but you and I both know that you won before that, when you got Persons of your own.
