In July, the ambassadors' workload included a welfare check on an elderly male, retrieval of shoplifted items and assisting with arrests.

Council launches free fast-track planning advice for business

Eastbourne Borough Council has launched a new fast-track planning advice service for businesses to help them adapt quickly to the many challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic.

This latest council initiative will mean a business that needs to make rapid changes to reflect the new working arrangements as a consequence of Covid-19, can get them in place, subject to an in principle agreement, rather than wait for planning permission.

Anyone planning to make changes due to the pandemic that may require permission, should contact customerfirst@lewes-eastbourne.gov.uk with ‘request for free COVID-19 advice’ in the subject line.

For a full list of the information a business needs to supply visit lewes-eastbourne.gov.uk/community/covid-19/planning/

Annual Report

We have published our Annual Report, which will be sent to all levy payers along with a copy of your invoice for the second year's levy this week.

The report details everything we have done over the last year, including our plans for the future.

You can download a copy here.
Victoria Place

Since the announcement of the Emergency Active Travel Fund, we have been lobbying East Sussex County Council to temporarily pedestrianise the seafront end of Terminus Road for the summer months.

We have worked really closely with partners and businesses within the area. Following the news that the road closure would not take place until September, we contacted all the businesses affected to determine whether the closure still had support.

Whilst long term, the majority of businesses in the area support pedestrianisation, the survey shows that a three month road closure from September and into the winter months would not be supported.

This week we have contacted the County Council to state that the BID no longer supports the temporary three month closure but we look forward to working with all partners to lobby for full pedestrianisation with improved pavements, surfaces and infrastructure.

In the meantime, we will be working with businesses to support this area during the winter.
Are you COVID-Ready?

Christmas 2020

We have been thinking about this year's Christmas since Christmas eve 2019 and as you can imagine, our plans have changed several times...

However, as long as we can continue to meet outside, we will be holding a Christmas market this year, from 17th to 20th December. This will incorporate a youth market, following a strong partnership we have built with East Sussex College Group. In addition to this, we will hold The Great Elf Hunt and a MASSIVE raffle in which you receive an entry to the raffle for every £40 you spend in Eastbourne Town Centre.

More details to follow soon.
Be Part of the Love Eastbourne Campaign

We have partnered with Visit Eastbourne, Eastbourne Hospitality Association and Eastbourne unLtd Chamber of Commerce to create the #LoveEastbourne Campaign; a campaign to promote Eastbourne.

It's really easy to take part and we'd love to see your posts and photos promoting Eastbourne.

You can be a part of the campaign in several ways:

1. Every time you post something on social media, use the hashtag #LoveEastbourne and tag @VisitEastbourne

2. Recreate an old photo and post to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtags #LoveEastbourne and #EBMemories

3. Look out for and share the competitions being posted on social media by Visit Eastbourne

It will be great to see and share your posts and photos, especially if you are a long-standing business in Eastbourne and have any old photos. Even if you don't have any of your own, you can still take part by recreating any of the vintage photos provided to us by Heritage Eastbourne.

For more information and to see the collection of vintage photos, visit our website here.
