Photo of the Week: Congratulations to Hygiene Hawks! We placed #1 in the MyOn Summer Reading district challenge!  Dr. Haddad came by this week to present us with the award.
Letter from Mrs. Collier

Dear Hygiene Families,
Our students are off to a great start here at Hygiene.  The levels of engagement, participation and attendance have been outstanding.  I  enjoyed our Virtual Open Houses this week, hearing about summer adventures, and getting to know the new students at our school.  It has been great to see so many new families that have joined our Hygiene community.  On behalf of the entire staff at Hygiene, we want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank our families for the relentless efforts all of you have demonstrated around troubleshooting technology and learning the various platforms that teachers use in this environment.  We realize that many of our families are juggling several things during the school day and yet we continue to see perseverance, patience, and understanding.  Again, we want to sincerely thank everyone.

I would like to take this opportunity to highlight some important celebrations and reminders for the upcoming month:

MyOn Summer Reading Program Winners!  What a super celebration for Hygiene!  Our top MyOn readers will start take part in Battle of the Hawks starting next week.  As a result of winning, our school received $2,500 for our school.  With this money, we are able to purchase more iPads for our students, which is a huge benefit.  Our students are working so hard and it is important that they all receive the technology they deserve to make learning more effective.  Again, thank you for supporting this district challenge.

Next week, we will have our first Late Start of the school year.  The purpose of Late Start is to provide meaningful Professional Development opportunities and planning time for our teachers and staff.  As a result, Synchronous Learning will begin at 1:00 pm that day.  Teachers will be sending out more information regarding the asynchronous expectation for learning in the morning.

IREADY TESTING NEXT WEEK - As we finished up last year in an online remote learning environment, we were unable to finish the year assessing our students.  The IReady assessments are given to students in Grades 1-5 three times a year in Reading and Math to determine growth and needs of your child.  In order to identify your child's needs, we will be engaging students in IReady testing next week.

These assessments will need to be done remotely on iPads or computer laptops.  We understand this is not the ideal testing environment, but we will all make it the best possible experience, as Hawks do!  Please provide a quiet testing environment free from other distractions.  It would also be helpful to monitor your child to ensure they are doing their best and accurately showing us what they know.  Teachers will also be discussing the importance of these assessments and assisting with downloading the necessary app to complete this.  All these assessments will happen in WebEx with classroom teachers.  Please see the scheduled under the Events column on this email.

Thank you for your continued support and patience as we all navigate this remote learning environment.  Do not hesitate to reach out to me with questions or concerns.  Your partnership is essential and we are so appreciative of the opportunity to engage with you and your child.
