Dear Reader,
The Mammon Stupor: (Matthew 6: 24-25) Mammon was an ancient word to describe someone who was obsessed with wealth and money. Back “in the day” most people were actively engaged in spiritual pursuits and having the presence of God in their lives. People who were obsessed with material gain were the exception to the rule. Of course, back then the earth’s resources hadn’t been raped to the degree that we see today, so mammon wasn’t as prevalent as it is today. In fact, the seekers of spiritual truth are the exceptions to the majority these days. We can chalk that up to the mindset that I call “The Mammon Stupor”.
Today, safety and security equate with being surrounded by physical barriers and material mantels or cloaks of mammon. We separate ourselves from each other and disguise our true self with physical adornments while pretending that we have actually achieved a major level of human glorification. This entitled state of mind creates a stupor (i.e.: a state of near-unconsciousness or insensibility.” Within which we choose to reside and choke off our sensitivities from our environment. Then we use Artificial Intelligence to invent substitutes to artificially stimulate our sensitivities and think that we are truly living life. Concurrently, our souls are being neglected, as well as corrupted and diluted of power, as we flounder within the mammon stupor of false idol worship. The only way out of the dilemma, that I have found, is to take leave of our safety and security confines and reach out into Nature and Sacred Organic intelligence. For me this included days and nights inside of a medicine wheel in the desert as well as over twenty-two years of Sun Dances. At Sun Dance, we dance continuously for three days and nights with no food and very little water. This forces you to abandon your illusion of mammon stupor dependency and propels you into the warm embrace of the Mother and Sacred Organic Intelligence. Without having the courage and desire to experience adventure, I probably would have remained inside my mammon stupor.
