Haringey in Bloom results will be announced soon

With today’s technology, we decided that all entries and judging would take place virtually. We were very pleased to receive over 80 entries via email and WhatsApp which surpassed last years’ entries, with a combination of local schools, community groups, local residents and older residents living within Supported Housing.  This indicates Haringey in Bloom is popular and gaining wider interest amongst communities within the borough. We thank you for participating.

At the time of writing this, the judges are still pondering and deliberating on the winners and individuals will be contacted once the results can be announced.

Better Health - helping you to a healthier lifestyle and tackling obesity

The Government and Public Health England have launched the ‘Better Health’ campaign to encourage people to embrace a healthier lifestyle and to lose weight if they need to. There are also a range of tools and apps providing advice on how to reduce the waistline from simple meal plans to increasing your activity levels: Obesity is one of the biggest health crises the country faces. Almost two-thirds (63%) of adults in England are overweight or living with obesity. Obesity-related illnesses costing the NHS £6 billion a year. The urgency of tackling the obesity time bomb has been brought to the fore by evidence of the link to an increased risk from COVID-19.

Living with excess weight puts people at greater risk of serious illness or death from COVID-19, with risk growing substantially as your body mass index (BMI) increases. Did you know? Nearly 8% of critically ill patients with COVID-19 in intensive care units have been morbidly obese, compared with 2.9% of the general population.

Deep cleaning around estates:

Our teams have been carrying out intensive and deep cleans at some of our estates. Members of the senior management at Broad water Farm joined hands with staff to do a full day cleaning at the facility.
The Estates team also did another deep clean at
White Hart Lane, Hornsey and Selby road. The teams have been doing minor painting of the external door surrounds, they have rubbed down stained and varnished the bannisters. The team also swept off and cleaned all the pram shed roofs and jet washed the refuse areas. Thanks to all the teams for the initiative, feedback from residents was positive.

We have so far covered Broad water Farm, .

Homes at Heart campaign

We are taking part in the national #HomesatHeart campaign that is organised by the National Housing Federation (NHF). The six ‘week of action’ campaign highlights the importance of homes in creating a stronger economy.

The National Housing Federation says “Our homes have never been more important to us than they have been during the coronavirus crisis. For some people, home has been a sanctuary. For others, it has been a prison. Everyone deserves a safe, secure, comfortable place to call home. Not just now, in the middle of this crisis, but always. Investing in social housing makes this possible. It will also boost the economy, create jobs and improve people’s lives when our nation needs it most”

The campaign showcases why homes should be at the heart of recovery from the effects of Covid19 pandemic. For more information, please check our website
