Saint Augustine’s Story

A Christian at 33, a priest at 36, a bishop at 41: Many people are familiar with the biographical sketch of Augustine of Hippo, sinner turned saint. But really to get to know the man is a rewarding experience.

There quickly surfaces the intensity with which he lived his life, whether his path led away from or toward God. The tears of his mother, the instructions of Ambrose and, most of all, God himself speaking to him in the Scriptures, redirected Augustine’s love of life to a life of love.

Having been so deeply immersed in creature-pride of life in his early days and having drunk deeply of its bitter dregs, it is not surprising that Augustine should have turned, with a holy fierceness, against the many demon-thrusts rampant in his day. His times were truly decadent: politically, socially, morally. He was both feared and loved, like the Master. The perennial criticism leveled against him: a fundamental rigorism.

In his day, Augustine providentially fulfilled the office of prophet. Like Jeremiah and other greats, he was hard-pressed but could not keep quiet. “I say to myself, I will not mention him/I will speak in his name no more/But then it becomes like fire burning in my heart/imprisoned in my bones/I grow weary holding it in/I cannot endure it” (Jeremiah 20:9).

Preparing to Vote in the Upcoming Elections

The Catholic bishops of the United States are pleased to offer once again to the Catholic faithful Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, our teaching document on the political responsibility of Catholics. This statement represents our guidance for Catholics in the exercise of their rights and duties as participants in our democracy. We urge our pastors, lay and religious faithful, and all people of good will to use this statement to help form their consciences; to teach those entrusted to their care; to contribute to civil and respectful public dialogue; and to shape political choices in the coming election in light of Catholic teaching. The statement lifts up our dual heritage as both faithful Catholics and American citizens with rights and duties as participants in the civil order.

Thank You for Your Generosity

Our parish is blessed by so many kind and generous people. Even in the midst of the ever-changing circumstances of parish life during a pandemic, many of our parishioners have continued to send or bring their contributions to the parish. Many have begun using online giving. I am so grateful that so many people have continued to contribute. It has been very helpful to the financial situation of the parish. While our income is down significantly, the generosity shown by so many has enabled us to continue the Mission of the Church and bring Christ to the world. Thank you all, very much!

Registration for all Sacrament preparation and Faith Formation for children, youth and adults will begin September 1. Registration Forms will be available in the parish office and on our parish website. Evening registration hours will be available in September.

We are here to support you in forming your children in the Catholic Faith with a creative and blended program for onsite and at home teaching in the fall. Program details will be available in September.

La registracion para todos los Sacramentos y Formacion de Fe para ninos, jovenes y adultos empezara el 1 de Septiembre. Las formas de registros estaran disponibles en la oficinal parroquial y en la pagina web de la parroquia. Horas de registro por la tarde seran disponible en Septiembre.

We are looking for a couple of volunteers who can assist Fr. Rey and our visiting priest during Saturday confessions. The volunteers would help set up the out door confession stations and monitor the line as people arrive for the Sacrament making sure that everyone sanitizes their hands and keeps proper social distance while they wait in line. The time commitment would be from 7:45AM - 9:45AM. If you are able to assist please call the parish office. Thank you!

Thank you to all our volunteers that have assisted during this time making it possible to celebrate the Eucharist outdoors. It has taken many hours and many hands to make this possible. Our Deacons, sacristan,catechist, ushers, musicians, ministers, Altar society, Legion of Mary, Knights of Columbus and our Hispanic Leadership group (Timon) and many others. Thank you!

Muchas gracias a todos los voluntarios que has ayudado durante este tiempo y han hecho possible celebrar la Eucaristia al aire libre. Este ha sido un esfuerzo de muchos. Nuestros Diaconos, sacristanes, catequistas, servidores, musicos, ministros, Altar Society, Legion de Maria, Caballeros de Colon y nuestros lideres hispanos (Timon) y muchos mas. Gracias!

Sunday Missals
Under the circumstance of COVID-19 we are unable to provide Missals to use during our Sunday Mass and in order to continue to support our parishioners spiritual needs and our Catholic publishers we have ordered missals that will be available for a $5.00 donation. You get the Missals at all Sunday masses and in the parish office starting next week.
