Welcome     Pastor Cynthia Cochran-Carney

Reading      Mindful  by Mary Oliver   read by Lynn MacDermott

Every day,
   I see or hear
      something
         that more or less

kills me
   with delight,
      that leave me
        like a needle

in the haystack
   of light.
It is what I was born for -
         to look, to listen,

to lose myself
   inside this soft world -
      to instruct myself
          over and over

in joy,
   and acclamation,
      Nor am I talking
         about the exceptional,

the fearful, the dreadful,
   the very extravagant -
      but of the ordinary,
         the common, the very drab,

the daily presentations.
   Oh, good scholar,
      I say to myself,
         how can you help

but grow wise
   with such teachings
      as these -
         the untrimmable light

of the world,
   the ocean's shine,
      the prayers that are made
         out of grass?

Song    Holy Ground     by Christopher Beatty
Martha Wall, Marcia DeZwarte & Cynthia Cochran-Carney, singers
             Jef Labes, piano

This is holy ground
We’re standing on holy ground
For our God is present and where God is is holy

Scripture verses    Exodus 3:1-15

Sermon     Holy Ground, Holy Radiance, Holy Calling Cynthia Cochran-Carney

Special Music    I Will Sing of Thy Mercies    by Mendelssohn
                            Arranged by Carlton Young
Marcia DeZwarte and Martha Wall, singers,
                            Jef Labes, guest pianist

Closing Words
When the way becomes difficult, let us still choose love.
When evil comes to break us down and break us apart,
let us still choose each other.
When power from on high strikes fear in our hearts,
let us still choose what is good and just.
For we know that the love of God will not be overcome.
With the assurance that this abiding love is alive in us,
           today and always,
let us go with peace and courage.  Amen.

Loving Our Neighbors

Gift Cards for Communities Affected by Fires - CAN YOU HELP?
Our friend, Rev. Curran Reichert, pastor at First Congregational Church in Sonoma is seeking support for many families in Sonoma County who have lost their homes in the fires raging in the unincorporated area of the wine country. They are really struggling to feed and clothe their families.

She is seeking gift cards for Target so that families can buy school clothes, Safeway cards so that people can feed their families, or 76 Gas cards so that people who are going to work, can afford to get there.

If you are able to contribute, please make a check out to OUR church, First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael and put Sonoma in the Memo line.  Send or drop off your check to the church.  We will collect the checks and purchase the gift cards (like we do for our Thanksgiving baskets).  Thank you for your support of these families in this time of need.
