Hello Mountain Shadows Neighbors,
What makes this a vibrant and caring community are the people who live in Mountain Shadows. Many of you did not live in Mountain Shadows eight years ago, and it may be hard to fully grasp how much the community has recovered. Only the dead trees on the hillside or an occasional dead tree in the open spaces are the visible traces left. Anyone who was impacted by the fire will never forget it, but we are resilient. 346 homes were destroyed, and only a handful of the lots remain to be built on. We will all be forever grateful to the First Responders that drove into the inferno and valiantly fought back the fire, saving so many homes.
As the weather continues to remain hot, let’s be mindful of the wildfire dangers that still persist in the hillsides. Please remind everyone about the fire ban in effect. This is also the time of year for our annual chipping event and is a great time to mitigate your property of dead or dry vegetation. The city sponsored chipping event will happen the week of September 7th. You must register to participate and to be included and have your items chipped and disposed of. Please visit the chipping event website for details and to register. For assistance please call Wildfire Mitigation at (719) 385-7342.
While many children are participating in school online, there are still a few classes and activities that are happening in person and some children and parents will be walking to our local schools. Please be mindful of posted speed limits, especially in school zones.
Flying W Ranch has opened! If you have not had a chance, the dinner and wrangler performance is a great way to get out and do something special, and support this wonderful attraction in our neighborhood.
We hope you all had a pleasant summer – even though it was certainly a different one than we are all used to. Stay safe and healthy!
