High school football teams across the state opened their seasons Friday night. Centennial (pictured) defeated Superior 14-6. See below for more scores.

Move to Phase 4 coming despite increased cases
The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services announced Aug. 26 that the 66 counties -- including Seward -- that are in Phase 3 of the state's reopening plan will move into Phase 4 on Sept. 14 unless hospitalization numbers change "dramatically."

As of Aug. 28, the total of COVID-19 cases has increased by 16 in the Four Corners District:
  • Seward County has eight new cases for a total of 178 cases, and 100 have recovered.
  • Butler County has seven new cases for 85 cases total, and 57 have recovered.
  • York County has one new case to total 112, and 80 have recovered.
  • Polk County remains at 30 cases total, and 23 have recovered.
The total cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in the Four Corners District is 405, and 260 of those have recovered.

Weekend scoreboard

Softball
Seward goes 2-1 and finishes second in the Seward Invitational Saturday, losing to Bennington 4-3 in the finals. Centennial goes 0-3 on the day at Seward. Malcolm ends 1-2 at the LPS Invite.

Golf
The Seward girls were third at their home invitational Friday. Breanna Placke placed sixth to lead the Bluejays.
