What happened in SEK this week?

The new school year is right around the corner! We had a very active and exciting week as we have many staff meetings and parents meeting for the 1st grade parents and new preschool parents. We received all the books and school materials and classrooms are being distributed.

Last but not least, we would like to kindly remind you that the students learn best when there is a supportive and effective partnership among school, parents, and the student. To this end, our entire staff look forward to working with you and your children to make this upcoming school year a great success!

A warm welcome to our new teachers!

We are delighted to announce the recruitment of new teachers to the SEK Budapest team for the 2020/21 school year!

Dr. Gábor Palágyi is going to teach physics in the IB program. He can't wait to meet our students!

Chloe Perling will be teaching English in Primary school. She also has a background in theatre and the performing arts, so she will take theatre club as an extracurricular lesson.

Carmen Bravo joins us as a Spanish teacher.  She has been living and working in different countries in Europe, Asia and Africa before, and now she is very excited to meet our old and new students.

Welcome to Enerel Bat-Ochir, who will be teaching ESS and Biology for our IB students.

Thank you to Tímea Burkus for joining in our work this year as a Special Teacher. She specialized in emotional and behavioral disorders and sensory integration therapy.

Welcome to Kiss Anikó who joins our team as a Math and Ethics Primary Teacher. She has already met some First Graders in the Preparatory Summer Camp, but she can't wait to meet you all.

Blanka Tass is going to teach Hungarian and Ethics in the primary school.

Fanni Békési joins our team as a Teaching Assistant and her main responsibilities will be to help the students adjust, learn, and socialize. She will escort and supervise the students in field trips and school activities.

Helping students cope with changes resulting from COVID-19

As you are all aware, the entire society is still applying the measures to eliminate and reduce the possibility of getting infected by COVID19. The prerequisites to open the doors of our school are thoroughly done. For keeping the students, parents, and teachers safe, we help children follow the protocols.

Why do you need extracurricular activities?

We are pleased to inform you that we prepare many different extracurricular classes this year! These include for example basketball, karate, chess, robotic, drama and music lessons.

Miért fontosak a tanítás utáni különórák?

Örömmel értesítjük Önöket, hogy idén is sokféle különórával készülünk! Többek között kosárlabda, karate, sakk, robotika, dráma és zeneórák is indulnak.

What are the benefits or the extracurricular activities?

• They provide a productive break from study
• They can help the children build their skills outside of the classroom
• They can open the children's mind to new interests
• The students can improve their time management skills

We are going to send you the list of our extracurricular activities. If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact us via email: roxana.hosso@iesmail.com

Milyen előnyei vannak a különóráknak?

• Produktív szünetet biztosítanak a tanulás során
• Segítenek fejleszteni a gyermekek képességeit a tantermeken kívül is
• Segítenek új érdeklődési köröket, témákat találni a gyermekeknek
• A tanulók fejleszthetik az időmenedzsmentjüket

A tanítás utáni különóráinkról küldjük a tájékoztatót hamarosan. Bármi további kérdés merülne fel, keressenek  minket bizalommal: roxana.hosso@iesmail.com

OUR SEK / IES PEERS AROUND THE WORLD

“Science is a way of thinking.” – C. Sagan

This saying is so true, and ‘thinking’ was certainly what the Year 1’s had to do in their Science lesson this week. They took all the knowledge that they had gained from our discussions around animal habitats, environments, diet, and animal babies, and had to design their own animal habitat.
It was a treat to watch them draw pictures of their favourite animals, work out how to create their habitat and add in all the bits and bobs that they need to make an ideal environment for their animal.

They all came up with so many ideas, and were able to assist each other in ways that could encourage new designs. I saw them make cylinders, cubes and domes. I was super impressed.

They were all so proud of their accomplishments, and I am sure that we can all agree that we are proud of them too.

CHILEAN LANDSCAPES

In Social Studies class, we were learning about the landscapes of Chile and the expressions of its natural heritage in order to build a sense of belonging with our natural surroundings.

Chile offers a variety of landscapes that have inspired many painters, poets and writers. Our task at the end of the unit, was to organize an art exhibition about Chilean landscapes. Each of the students chose a Chilean landscape, built it by using the technique of their choice, and then presented it by saying its characteristics and the area where it is located.

This activity allowed the students to work on a creative project, following a plan, the step- by- step in each class, seeing their progress and working in a more autonomous way. The result was amazing! Students showed commitment and interest while working on the project.
