Dear <<First Name*>>,

I hope that all is going well with you and that you are enjoying the last few days of summer. I was able to get out and do a little bit of camping with my family recently and had a fantastic time. Now I am back in my studio and ready to get some creative work done.

Chance Encounters

Suddenly, 24 by 36 inches, acrylic paint, paper, cardboard, wood, wire and metal on wood, 2016.

This painting, Suddenly, is a lighthearted abstraction which investigates a moment in time, a chance encounter and perhaps meeting a significant other. A visual cacophony of different elements it also has bits of poetry, rest and meditation within it. It is a reflection of life and the happy surprises it can unexpectedly bring when you're not seeking them.

The composition includes magazine clippings, cardboard, bits of metal and other cast-offs from everyday life combined with multiple layers of acrylic paint.

Notable Artist

Ragtime, 2015

Betye Saar (b.1926) is an American artist who is considered a legend in the contemporary art world. She is an accomplished painter and printmaker but she is best known for her assemblage work. Her work often examines myths and stereotypes about race and femininity. Through her radical narratives and storytelling she challenges negative ideas of African Americans in popular culture and historic imagery. I admire her artwork greatly as it is visually riveting, complex and always challenging.
