Tucson Update

We're Here! | Oct 2, 2020

Maybe you thought we fell off the face of the earth because it has been a while, (our apologies) but we are here in Arizona as of July! And it's hot out here. Thank you to everyone who helped with the moving process- either giving time, praying, or giving toward our moving expenses! It is such an exciting thing and an answer to prayer to be here on the mission field with UIM Aviation.

We have so much to share it is hard to know where to start.  We were hoping to send out an update much earlier, however with so many changes in our plans due to COVID, and also changes in our long term plans with UIMA, we decided to hold off. I will outline some of the changes here briefly:
  • Early spring- we received a phone call from UIMA asking our family if we would consider serving in Tepic, Mexico rather than Tucson because needs were changing in the organization. This meant that Nathan needed to build flight time- as they wanted him to have 500 hours prior to moving
  • After praying, we said Yes!
  • Spring-Summer: Nathan built 500 hours by July in order to complete requirements. Nathan also obtained his Certified Flight Instructor license.
  • July 2020- Moved to Tucson, AZ
  • August 2020- began working in the hangar in Tucson receiving maintenance training on UIM's aircraft.
What's Ahead:
  • Nathan will have a flight technical evaluation sometime this month. He will need to pass in order to serve in Mexico. (The TE was supposed to happen in Sept. but the chief pilot caught Covid-19.)
  • We are in the process of applying for our passports. Pray that this will go quickly and smoothly!
  • Language school in January- since we will now be in Mexico, UIMA is sending us to language school in order to help us acclimate to the culture and language. This will mean another move, possibly to Texas near the border, or to Guadalajara.
  • Moving to Mexico!

We sincerely appreciate everyone who has stood by us while all of these changes have taken place. It can be a little overwhelming at times, but we have seen God work in so many ways to give us added confirmation. For instance, Nathan found out that UIMA was wanting him to have more flight hours. Mark, an aerial photographer offered Nathan a job flying for him to help build his flight time. Mark decided a few years ago that he wanted to bless SOAR's students by using them for his aerial photography business so that they could build their flight time with no cost to the student. Nathan flew over 120 hours with Mark. This has saved us literally thousands of dollars in airplane renting expenses. Mark using his business as a ministry has truly blessed our family. Nathan was able to acquire all the necessary flight time, complete his instructor rating, and a tailwheel rating all before we moved in July.

We are getting settled into a mission house offered by Drexel Heights Baptist Church here in Tucson. This has also been a blessing to our family, as short term housing options are hard to come by. The kids are adjusting to the new area and weather well. (It was incredibly hot at first, over 100 degrees our first 45 days here!!) We are enjoying exploring and learning about Arizona and the desert as a family.

We appreciate all the encouragement we've received from everyone back home as well as everyone here in Tucson. It has made the move much easier! Thanks for your prayers, letters, calls, etc. They mean so much to us.

May God bless each of you!
In Christ, from Arizona
