Safe Return Update


RCCD and its colleges are following the California Resilience Roadmap to recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. All information about RCCD’s COVID-19 Prevention Plan and recommendations for a Safe Return to Campus are available at https://rccd.edu/return

All courses during the fall semester will have lectures and most learning activities occurring ONLINE.

Colleges are now able to provide limited face-to-face instruction for those students who are taking courses leading to jobs and careers in essential sectors. A list of classes that will be offered in face-to-face or hybrid formats is available here. Those on-campus courses will be held in carefully controlled environments.

The Passing of Salvatore G. Rotella, Ph.D.

Salvatore G. Rotella, Ph.D., the seventh president for Riverside City College and then chancellor of Riverside Community College District, passed away on August 11 in New York, with his family at his bedside. Rotella, 86, served the District for 15 years, retiring in 2005.

"A scholar and a visionary are the terms most often used in describing Dr. Salvatore Rotella,” Mary Figueroa, president of the RCCD Board of Trustees, said. “He was a leader unlike any other to have come along in Riverside’s history."

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Scheduled for Platform Scenario Training Building


A virtual ribbon cutting ceremony for Moreno Valley College’s Platform Scenario Training Building at the Ben Clark Training Center will be held on September 8 at 9:30 am. College and Riverside County officials will be on hand, but guests are by invite only since attendance is limited to 50 attendees.

Invest in the Norco College Student Life Emergency Fund

Norco College, together with the RCCD Foundation, bring you the inaugural and virtual 2020 Norco College Giving Week on October 5 - 9. The money raised will support the Student Life Emergency Fund, which helps students with books, tuition, transportation, food vouchers, hotel vouchers and scholarships.

The goal is to raise $25,000 to help students get through these challenging times.

RCC’s Hungry Tigers Program Served More Than 2,800 Students


Riverside City College continues to provide assistance to food insecure students hosting food distributions supported by the Hungry Tigers Grant. With the help of staff and volunteers, the RCC team has provided more than 2,800 students with nonperishable food, fresh produce, and essential supplies.

Office of Economic Development Client Exquadrum Named to the 2020 Inc. 5000 List


RCCD’s Office of Economic Development (OED) is excited to share the news that one of its small business clients – Exquadrum, Inc. – was recently named to the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing privately-held companies in the nation.  Based in Adelanto, Exquadrum is a research and development aerospace engineering company founded in 2002 by two life-long residents of the High Desert: Eric Schmidt, President, and Kevin Mahaffy, CEO.  The company ranked 3748 on the 2020 Inc 5000 list, with an average annual revenue growth rate of 97% over the last three years.

RCCD Receives Personal Protective Equipment From the State


In an effort to assist colleges and schools in fighting COVID-19 and protect faculty, staff and students, Governor Gavin Newsome approved funding personal protective equipment (PPE) for all California community colleges. RCCD received a supply of PPE this summer, which is being distributed to the colleges. The following PPE and safety equipment received this month will be issued Districtwide:
  • 960 n95 masks 
  • 50 thermometers 
  • 800 face shields
  • 17,000 hand sanitizer bottles 
  • 1,800,000 surgical masks 

CapRock Partners Giving Foundation Establishes New Endowed Scholarship

The CapRock Partners Giving Foundation established a new endowed scholarship in honor of Kathy Azevedo. The Kathy Azevedo Endowed Scholarship will provide scholarship support for Norco College students who are involved in student government, preferably with Associated Students of Norco (ASNC).  

The CapRock Partners Giving Foundation values the spirit of dedication and service of Azevedo, former mayor and city councilwoman in the City of Norco.  This scholarship is a way to honor her ongoing commitment to community service.
