Weekly Newsletter: Sneaky Movement

A recent study showed that we are on average moving 32% LESS each day since social distancing went into effect. No wonder we’re all seeing a change at our waistlines!

Getting enough daily activity boosts not only our overall health, but also improves mood, reduces stress, and improves brain function.

So how do we get our activity back to pre-COVID levels? By being sneaky! Here are some ways to move more with the activities that you’re already doing.

  1. Move While You Wait: Waiting for water to boil? Only have a minute while lunch heats up in the microwave? Walk/run in place, stretch your arms, or practice side lunges.
  1. Make Your Movements Bigger: Don’t just vacuum, try vacuum lunges. Brushing your teeth? - Add squats!
  1. Move on the Phone: They can’t see what you’re doing -- walk around the house or even get out in the yard.
  1. TV time? Every commercial break, try a different exercise, such as hip bridges, sofa push-ups, or bicycle crunches. Better yet, add some kegels for the pelvic floor!
  1. Ready to take it to the next level? Consider upgrading your home office with a standing desk, under-desk bicycle pedals, or even a treadmill desk.

As always, remembering to make these changes is the hardest part -- consider putting post-its up reminding you to move more!
