A NOTE FROM THE NURSE’S OFFICE

Dear Parents/Guardians:
As we begin a new school year here at St. Anthony Tri-Parish Catholic School there is great anticipation for how God will bless us in the days and weeks to come. I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve as your child’s school nurse. This school is a special place to learn and grow in knowledge and faith. So once again, I ask for your cooperation so that we can have a great beginning once again in September. It is important that I am made aware of any allergies, sensitivities, or special needs your child may have so that we may serve him/her in the best way possible. Please note these on the emergency card.
Privacy and the protection of your child’s personal health information are crucial. Every student at St. Anthony School has a chart in the nurse’s office that will contain only their information. That chart will follow them during the time they are enrolled at St. Anthony School. The filing cabinet containing this information will remain locked when school is not in session.
There are a couple of items that are especially important. Although these may seem somewhat cumbersome, things run much more smoothly when everyone is “on the same page”.
  1.  We are required to have a current immunization record on file for each student attending St. Anthony School.  Please have this information to the school no later than 30 calendar days from the first day of school.  After that day, any child without this record on file will not be allowed to attend school.  Seventh graders’ immunization record must show that he/she has had an additional Tdap by the first day of the school year in order to attend school.  Sorry, there is no grace period for this requirement.   If in doubt, please check with your child’s Health Care Provider.   If your child has been exempted from required immunizations, we must have the state-issued certificate on record at the school.
  2. All medications (prescription and over-the-counter) to be taken during the school day that will be given by either the school nurse or another staff member will require a doctor’s written order and must be kept in the nurse’s office.  This includes such things as cough drops, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), acetaminophen (Tylenol), ointments and other topical medications such as Benadryl gel or Caladryl, and eye drops.  All medications must be delivered to the school by the parent/guardian in their original container.  No exceptions.  We still have parents dropping off baggies with cough drops.  Please don’t do this as all medications in baggies will be appropriately discarded.
  3. There is one exception to keeping medications in the clinic.  Students who have reactive airway disease and use an inhaler may keep the inhaler with them as long as their parent/guardian has confidence in the student’s ability to administer the medication correctly and the parent/guardian has signed the exemption portion of the Medication Administration form.  Medication administration forms are available for pick-up in the nurse’s office at the school.  Look for a pink piece of paper.
  4. If your child has had a fever of 99.8 degrees or over, diarrhea, or vomiting within the last 24 hours please do not bring them to school.  We appreciate your cooperation with this.

Please feel free to call me anytime at the school.I am usually here from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. each day that school is in session.

Looking forward to another great year!

Julie Perry R.N.SAS nurse
