On the Way to Epworth’s Dumpster
Submitted by Sharon Loyd
In everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. - 1 Thess. 5:18
One bright early morning towards the end of Epworth’s Summer Day Camp, I needed to make a trip to the dumpster to get rid of a surplus of cardboard containers. The sun was shining bright. The sky was blue. It was a wonderful, glorious day, yet it started out with the most mundane of tasks. On my way back from the dumpster, I turned and saw what had been an everyday early morning picture, that somehow, all summer long, I had missed! But this morning, Father God, stopped me right there in my tracks…. on the way back into the office. There I saw this precious, precious scene.
Precious in The Sight of God!
It touched me deep within my heart. I decided I needed to run and get my phone and take a picture of it. It may seem commonplace to some, but to me it spoke volumes—it’s what the picture represents. Father God will speak to us sometimes in the most unusual ways and times. He is with us every moment of every day, even in the most mundane of tasks.
Later that day, I went back and asked the Flock teacher in charge if I could take a few pics of the children, but being ever so mindful of their right to privacy, I only wanted pictures of their hands & feet busily occupied with their assigned “work” for the day…….which is their “play”.
Busy Feet & Hands

I came back in from the dumpster with a heart filled with joy and blessing! Sis thought I had won the lottery! LOL, I believe I have! I have looked at and meditated on these pictures often, and this is what I wrote. I hope it will inspire you to:
- Look for Father God in the most unexpected places, and in the most common and uncommon ways, for it is there and then, that you will find Him filling you with unexpected joy!
- Thank Him for everything you do …. even taking out the trash, for you never know when He will speak and give you an opportunity to allow Him to stir your heart to bless others.
After much thought, I have written the following:
Busy Hands, and busy feet, working hard at play,
Taught by teachers with loving hearts,
to put their prized possessions away.
Neatly lined up and ready for another day at work.
Precious moments spent learning how to be a friend,
to create, to think, and to share,
their work is “play”, and yes, even teaching them
to be thankful and to pray, thanking God for teachers who
Guide them on how to be the future of our nation
In a safe and gentle way.
Thanking God for Epworth and all its ministries that touch hearts and lives in so many ways, for the privilege of being a part of it….And especially for Epworth being entrusted with a treasure whose value cannot be measured.
Let us give God “thanks”, even on the way to a dumpster, one of the most mundane things of life!
