Second generation missionaries to China

September 2020

Dear Supporters and Friends,

The last few months have been both hard and fruitful. We seem to be fighting battles on every front. Whether it was the extra difficulty in processing our visas, having our meeting reported, or pleading with people not to make decisions contrary to the Word of God, there seemed to be no end to the turmoil. Each problem and test came with its own set of pressures, but each test put us on our knees and in the end we saw God answer prayer and give the needed strength to continue on.

Along with the trails came great rejoicing as we saw two souls come to Christ this month. A man I have been studying with for many months now made a decision to receive Christ. His girlfriend was not at all happy with his decision to receive Christ, but my wife befriended her and began spending time with her. It wasn’t a month later that she too received Christ. God has done much in their lives already, but they still have a long road ahead of them. He is an actor and she is a bar singer, so I’m sure you can imagine many of the battles that lie ahead. Our prayer for them is that they would be fruit that would remain.

Work has continued on the hymnal as we are now up to over 280 hymns. This has been a most fruitful project, and our church has slowly begun to enjoy singing and praising God on a much greater level.

One matter of urgent prayer is the health of our co-laborer Pastor Xu. He has had what he thought was chronic bronchitis for quite some time, but after getting some tests done the doctors found two spots on his lungs. Pray for Pastor Xu and his family as the doctors continue to do tests. Specifically, that he would be able to get the tests done that he needs as he has to wait in line for weeks at a time to get simple tests performed, and also that the spots would not be cancerous.

Please continue to pray for safety as we plan to print more tracts and hymnals at the end of the month. My brother Ben, who is serving the Lord in Ha’er Bin, China, and I are working together teaching online Bible classes to the men in our churches and some from my Dad's church in Beijing who are training for the ministry. This as been working out extremely well, but pray that the Lord would bless this endeavor as it is a very time consuming one.  Also, pray for Longfei, a young man who has come to our church to study the Bible and prepare for ministry, that God would teach him and we would see spiritual growth.

In Christ,

Neal, Beth, Lois, Abigail, Naomi, and Edward
