Canadian Premier League’s Island Games Tournament To Air in the U.S. for the First Time

Live coverage began last week on Fox Sports with Pacific FC v York9 FC the highest-rated program of the day on FS2

MEDIAPRO Canada has confirmed a distribution deal with Fox Sports in the United States and the Caribbean for coverage of the Canadian Premier League’s Island Games tournament currently taking place in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

A total of 23 first-stage games will be broadcast across FS2  and Fox Soccer Plus, with live coverage beginning last week. The first game, the fixture between Pacific FC and York9 FC, was the highest-rated program of the day on FS2.

Further coverage on the two channels will be announced as the tournament moves towards the playoff stage, from September 9th - 17th, with the grand final airing on September 19th.

The coverage on FS2 and Fox Soccer Plus means that the CPL will be aired on a linear channel in the U.S and the Caribbean for the first time.

Fox Sports has a long soccer pedigree: the broadcaster holds the English-language rights to the 2018, 2022 and 2026 FIFA World Cups and also shows live coverage of Major League Soccer, the Concacaf Champions League and the Gold Cup. Fox Sports aired live coverage of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The move comes after MEDIAPRO Canada announced that it had sealed agreements with Indian sports channel 1SPORTS and pan-African digital TV platform StarTimes, bringing coverage of the CPL to millions of fans in the Indian subcontinent and Africa respectively.

The distribution deal between MEDIAPRO Canada and FOX Sports was orchestrated by sports media consultancy ThePostGame.
