GUEST SPEAKER
Wildflower Society of WA President Kevin Thiele Where is the Wildflower Society going? Current and future directions
Kevin Thiele is the current President of the Wildflower Society of Western Australia.
He is a botanist with many years’ experience working on the taxonomy of important genera including Banksia, Hibbertia, and the eastern states native violets.
He was the head of the Western Australian Herbarium for ten years, and is currently the Director of Taxonomy Australia at the Australian Academy of Science.
Saturday 5th September, 10am: Ambergate Reserve walk
Leader: Bernie Masters
Ambergate Reserve is a 75 hectare remnant of once widespread shrubland and woodland, now much cleared. The reserve is rich in plants and wildlife and has important conservation values. The Busselton Naturalists' Club was appointed as its manager in 1987 and President Bernie Masters knows the reserve better than most.
Saturday 19th September, 9.30am: Carbunup Reserve walk
Leader: Kay Lehman
Experienced Botanist and City of Busselton Environmental Officer, Kay Lehman, will be leading this walk through a marri woodland community that contains more species than any other type of woodland on the Swan Coastal Plain, and is therefore listed as a Threatened Ecological Community; it also represents the largest and highest quality remnant of this vegetation type remaining on public lands.
Details of the events for October to November can be seen on the branch's home page on the Wildflower Society of Western Australia website. They are subject to change, but changes will be well publicised in future newsletters. and on the website.
