The Long Haul

Hi friends,

It's been a whirlwind summer of book promo, contrasted with absorbing everything going on in the world. We're grateful that our book could bring a moment of joy in the midst of so much turmoil, and even more glad for the friendships that make our story resonate.

Love, Team CYG

P.S. There's only two months left until the U.S. presidential election. Be sure you and your loved ones are registered to vote
Listener Manon Pell bought the Big Friendship audiobook, but then had so many comments that she also bought a physical copy! She's been annotating (in very neat French) to share with her bestie for her birthday.

BESTIES OF THE MONTH

Sophie & Melanie met in college and spent 6 years as roommates, intense crafting buddies, Diva Cup enthusiasts, and platonic life partners. Although their friendship is now trans-continental, Sophie & Melanie keep up their Big Friendship with weekly phone dates and fun Zoom events with their friendweb (and planning their joint 30th birthday party, a time to celebrate their commitment and love to each other). Between them, Sophie & Melanie dedicate their time to climate change mitigation and criminal justice reform efforts.

MERCH

The Scam in Structural hat is back in stock in demin and white. Here's friend of the pod Jorge's dog Lupita Fantasma modeling.

WE'RE OBSESSED
Gina is feeling:
Ann is loving:
  • These miso pesto ramen noodles make for a really easy and delicious hot-weather meal.
  • Hausu, a 1977 Japanese psychedelic horror movie about a group of girls who go to visit a witchy aunt (and her laser-eyed cat) over summer break. I normally hate scary movies but the analog special effects are so strange that this ended up being way more trippy than gory. Pairs well with your drug of choice.
  • Window Swap is how I'm traveling without actually traveling these days.

Laura is into:
  • Donating to the Association of LGBTQ Journalists, which works to foster fair and accurate coverage of LGBTQ issues.
  • SUPERBLOOM, a dancy album from Misterwives about a breakup and the triumph of moving on, written by two members of the band on the end of their marriage.
  • Frequent ice cream field trips, because LA barely made it through a very rough heatwave
  • Don't Forget This Song, a graphic novel about the history of The Carter Family, the first superfamous singing family in the U.S.

GLAMOUR SHOTS
You can read all the press/listen to all our interviews about Big Friendship here, but we especially loved this one from The Washington Post. Also, this happened:

THE TEASE
Coming up, celebrating women's suffrage even as we recognize the ongoing threat of voter suppression.
