Go for the Truth in You

For all of us, there are those moments in which the truth is spoken, and we know it to be so.

I had one of those moments this month when I noticed I had left a stove burner on low under a pot. My response might have been, “I can’t believe you just did that” with an edge of judgment on it. Instead, because I was very present, I simply heard myself say out loud, calmly, and with pure innocence, “I feel really stupid.” It was my truth in that moment. I was quite moved and immediately felt the understanding and compassion for myself which does not often happen with outbursts of frustration.

This moment of truth made quite an impact inside me, and it led to another moment of truth involving another person.

I woke up one morning before leaving for a client day and heard an inner voice very clearly caution me not to go. I was not given a reason, but I know to trust what I hear inside. So, I bravely called the client three hours before I was to arrive and told them the truth.  Fortunately, they were fine with it and we rescheduled. As it turned out I received a text from this person later in the day thanking me for not ignoring what I heard. Because I canceled, they were able to handle something critical for them that would not otherwise have been available that day. That confirmation was a powerful reminder of how important it is to listen to what we hear as truth and not analyze or try to justify with reasons.

We never know when our willingness to not do something will allow someone else the opportunity to do something important.

In the world of actions and completing, honesty is essential. Making agreements we know we cannot keep lowers our self-esteem, confidence, effectiveness, and energy. Not defining the true next doable physical step keeps us from completing. Keeping items on Project, Action or Someday Maybe lists that are not current is not being true to ourselves. As we do our Weekly Reviews it is wise to ask if we want our attention on everything we have placed on our lists. Are we spreading ourselves too thin? Are we keeping things in our head that really belong written on a list?

I remember being told once that I can do anything I want to, but not everything.

Finding what is our truth in all that we capture and keep on our lists is freeing, empowering, real and, not to mention, keeps us compassionate with ourselves.

Martha Invitations.

1. Look at where you might be more truthful with yourself.

2. Have a “come to truth” Weekly Review with yourself and get things off the lists that had an expiration date a long time ago and are not current or real for you.

3. Listen to what is true for you before you speak or act.
