Let’s get down to business, Charleston – the 2020 election is just around the corner. Well, okay, it’s not until Tuesday, November 3, but the last day to register to vote is Mon., Oct. 5.
To register by mail, the form must be postmarked by Mon., Oct. 5.
The last day to register to vote online in South Carolina is Sun., Oct. 4. South Carolina does not offer registration on Election Day.
The last day to register to vote in-person in South Carolina is Fri., Oct. 2.

We know, registering to vote (or just checking to make sure you’re registered) sounds like one more thing to add to your never-ending to-do list, but it is easy. 🗳️
How to register online:
○ Make sure you have a South Carolina driver's license or a DMV ID card. The address on record at the DMV has to match the address where you're registering to vote, which can be updated online.
○ Click this link. It will only take about two minutes to register.
Where to vote + what to bring:
○ Once you’re registered, click this link to find out where to vote.
○ On Election Day, bring one of the following with you, if you vote in person: SC driver's license or SC DMV ID Card (includes standard license + REAL ID), SC Concealed Weapons Permit, US military ID (Includes all Department of Defense Photo IDs + Veterans Affairs Benefits Card), SC voter registration card with photo, or US passport (Includes US Passport ID Card).
How to volunteer:
○ Sign up for the nonpartisan Election Protection coalition ○ Sign up to volunteer with HeadCount, a non-partisan voter registration organization, and help get people registered.

Ten kits, given to CCPL through a grant, will be available to library card holders at the Main + Baxter-Patrick James Island branches and can be checked out for a period of four weeks (28 days). ○ Due to the resumption of weekend athletics at Ackerman Park + COVID-19 concerns, the West Ashley Essentials Market has relocated to the intersection of the West Ashley Greenway + Farmfield Avenue and will operate as an essentials only farm stand on Saturdays from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Free parking will be available at the Charleston Tennis Center (19 Farmfield Avenue).
○ The Post and Courier announced that the company will expand to begin providing daily news in Columbia, in addition to the Free Times, on Oct. 1. A weekly print edition will continue to be distributed on Wednesdays for free. (Post and Courier)

Visit SCDHEC’s website for full coronavirus data + stats, and here for daily positive COVID-19 cases + related deaths in South Carolina.
○ Now that MUSC Health is offering COVID-19 saliva tests, the new process will help healthcare professionals by requiring less personal protective equipment (PPE) + is less invasive for the patient. Currently, the saliva testing is available for symptomatic ambulatory patients in Charleston, followed by patients in Florence + Lancaster. Eventually, the saliva tests will be available for wider use. (Moultrie News)
○ Reporting for college COVID-19 cases around the Lowcountry varies by the school. Among the total number of positive cases reported from the 11 Division-1 colleges + universities in South Carolina, UofSC, The Citadel, the College of Charleston + Presbyterian University reported “active” cases. According to this report, in total, the 11 D1 schools have managed 4,217 positive COVID-19 cases. Read more here. (WCSC)
○ On Friday, Coastal Carolina University announced 79 new positive COVID-19 cases on campus + three new employee cases. As of last week, there were 81 students in isolation and another 150 students were under quarantine. These reports were released the day of the university’s first home football game of the season, where thousands of spectators were expected to attend. (Post and Courier)
○ U.S. health officials at the CDC are now advising that anyone who has been in close contact with a person who is infected with COVID-19 should get tested. This guidance is different from what was advised last month. A few weeks ago, the institute reported that it was not necessary for people who have been in close contact with infected people, but don’t feel sick, to get tested.
