Howdy!
That's the word used by cowboys (and cowgirls) to say hello. 😛
This newsletter arrives in your inbox as Hurricane Laura, likely a category 5 storm, batters multiple states along the Gulf Coast of the United States. If you are reading this having evacuated from the path of the storm, please know that I am thinking of you and wishing your family all the best. For the admittedly few readers I have from the State of Iowa, know that I am also praying for your state's recovery from the devastating derecho, which has been largely ignored.
I don't have much to say in this newsletter as I am still in isolation, but there are a few things I would like to bring to your attention.
Building a wheelchair taxi database
One of the biggest challenges I face when traveling is finding wheelchair accessible transportation beyond the city bus. This may not be an issue in big cities like New York or Chicago, but it's a serious problem in smaller ones like St. Louis and Dallas - and even worse in rural areas.
Last week, I launched a new project. I want to build a global database of wheelchair taxi and transportation providers - the go-to source for finding this information. It will also be a place where we can comment on our experiences and share our knowledge with others. If you have a few minutes to spare, please check it out (and lend a hand) at WCTaxis.com.
Two Facebook groups
I accidentally became the admin of an ailing Facebook group a couple of years ago, and I'm looking to give it a boost. If you're interested, join the Global Disability Lounge on Facebook and help us get a conversation started.
Some of you pick up on this occasionally, but for those who don't know, I am a Roman Catholic. For many years now, I have been disappointed by the fact that I am often the only visibly disabled person at Mass on Sunday. I want to carve out a place for us in the Church and, if you are a Catholic or a member of another Christian denomination, I invite you to join my brand-new Facebook group, Disabled Catholics. When I say brand-new, I mean it - I'm the only member thus far! 🤣
Below, you'll find links to new articles that I hope you will read & share with your friends on social media. As always, I welcome your feedback and comments.
Talk to you soon,
— John Morris
