Here's the latest news about the local effort for the ILC in Tohoku (northeastern Japan)
 
The Tohoku ILC Project Development Center is formed – 22 local governments and universities of Iwate and Miyagi
The Tohoku ILC Project Development Center was formed on August 6th by 22 organizations (local governments, universities, etc) of Iwate and Miyagi, the location of the ILC candidate site. In response to the international research community forming an international development team and moving towards the full-fledged preliminary preparation stage, the Tohoku region is accelerating its push towards developing the region and infrastructure to receive the ILC.

ILC International Development Team goes live, based at KEK

An International Development Team that will push forth the ILC project has started its activities. Their base-of-activities is located at KEK (Japan’s High Energy Accelerator Research Organization, in Tsukuba, Ibaraki), and by 2021, they will develop the organizational framework for the preliminary organization that will prepare for the ILC. They will also improve upon the technology to be used at the experimental facilities. With this, the ILC project has now moved into its preparation phase.

Summer in Morioka and Sansa Odori
 

We can hear the cicada chirping this year, as always, during the hot summer of Morioka in Iwate Prefecture.
Yet, this summer is very different from those past.
Usually, summer in Morioka is filled with sounds of drums and flutes humming throughout the town.
Men and women, old and young are usually hard at work preparing and practicing for the Morioka Sansa Odori festival that is held every year on August 1-4. The air is filled with joy and laughter.

Spanning a length of more than 1,000 kilometers, the Michinoku Coastal Trail in Tohoku, Japan runs along the majestic Pacific Ocean.
The trees of the forest awaken from their slumber. These are scenes from spring to fall, brimming with new life. Plants and trees grow lush with foliage, people join in passionate festivals and fields of grain are ready for harvest. As hikers move throughout the changing seasons, each person continues to weave the tapestry of their life, continuing on their journey on foot while cherishing Tohoku’s scenery and people met along the way. (Filmed in areas between Kamaishi, Iwate Prefecture and Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture.)
