Welcome to the season of blossoms!

With our long and strange winter-time now behind us, here in WA the beauty of spring feels more potent than ever!  As we embrace freedoms and connection locally, our hearts go to everyone in our community and beyond, who are unable to be with family and friends in other states and overseas.  Anyone struggling with this or other losses associated with COVID-19 is welcome to contact the Grief Centre for understanding and support - please spread the word!

When news of the local lock-down was to lift, the Grief Centre took the opportunity to host our first High Tea Fundraiser, which on all accounts was a wonderful success.  The event was held on a glorious Saturday afternoon with 30 guests treated to delicious sweets, savories and, for those inclined, a glass of bubbles on arrival.  Our fabulous team of volunteers planned and coordinated the occasion with such style and grace that we hope for The Grief Centre High Tea to become an annual event.  Many thanks to all who contributed to the success of the day, to especially Kath, Laura, Liz and Ann.

A new sign for the Grief Centre!

Heartfelt thanks to Rachel Strom from Playa Coffee Cafe for fundraising to support the Grief Centre while honouring the death of her sister Alex 4 years ago.  Rachel was moved to offer her support in appreciation of the care and understanding her mother Jan has received at the Grief Centre over the years.  We were delighted to use some of the funds raised to purchase a new sign for the Centre and to have Rachel and Jan present for the unveiling.

Grief Support Groups and Counselling

At the Grief Centre we have a range of Support Groups for people living with grief no matter when or how the loss occurred.  Groups are available for adults, and a separate one for youth, who are bereaved. We also have an on-line group for those whose heartache is due to a change in life circumstances.  These non-death losses can include the loss of employment, a relationship, unfulfilled life expectations and being isolated from loved ones.

Attendance at the Grief Centre's Support Groups are by donation.  People are welcome to come regularly, or whenever they feel the need for extra connection, understanding and support.

Learning From Our Grief Experience

"When you lose someone, the last thing you want is to lose memories of him too. And the last thing that person would want is for his death to define his whole life. Keep your loved ones alive in your conversations, your memories, the way you live because end of life in no way translates to end of relationship".

These wise words are written by Jahanvi Sardana about keeping the memory of her father alive within her.  You can read Jahanvi's article from Option B by clicking the link below.
