Thanks Molly! We love the record and hope to see you soon!
Greetings all ye huddled masses yearning to rock Free,

Well, this week’s email is a total mixed bag of good news, bad news, battle cry of positivity, some sadness, and STICKERS. It seems weird to be running a record store and strolling along while awful parts of our human tribe exhibit their violent bad sides in the deaths in Kenosha (and other places this year) simultaneously as we struggle to live safely in the midst of this unending pandemic. HOWEVER, having said that we’re hoping we can be a force for comfort or a bit of sorta normal in all this… To that end we at Horizon Records shuffle along processing and curating music of all genres, eras, and formats for your therapeutic shopping. so lets start with some good news…

GOOD NEWS:
MOLLY TUTTLE has a new record! That’s the good news, and we’re still here to sell it to ya. In a time of unending weirdness and chaos, her new project brings the therapeutic value of 10 tracks of honest, heart on the sleeve emotion (and a bit of fun) into our world via a personal journey of cover songs.

Bad news (can be good news):
Horizon is (in classic fiercely independent style) Sittin It Out as concerns RSD’s Drop#1 this Saturday. We are open however for our current usual hours and invite your shopping and visit just as we do 7 days a week. We firmly believe in both staying safe AND serving first and foremost our loyal regular customers and collectors with the limited capacity safety conditions allow us. Read more here, and come see us, we got a ton of restocks, new stuff and vintage tunes loaded in for you, because that is what we do, and have done for 45 years.

 Battle cry of positivity
We’re still here! That’s our motto and our story and we’re stickin to it. We love y’all and hope you’ll let some good sounds into your life however you can. It’s safe, its soothing and you can enjoy at home anytime and over and over. And like Hunter S. Thomson has said, "the best defence is a really weird offence".

Sadness: All of us at Horizon like music fans everywhere were hit hard and saddened by news this week that Justin Townes Earle left us at the way too early age of 38. His long career of performances and deep catalogue releases renowned for the old soul, incisive, often unfiltered songs of passion, struggle and love leave us with an indelible mark on our psyche and this music carries on through his recordings.

STICKERS!!!! Yup, come see Chuck or any of the staffers and get your own Horizon sticker for the low low price of 1 buck. Our brand is your brand. Stick it on your stuff and your friends will know that you are one of those crazy people that
a) still listen to physical media
b) support local businesses!

In this time of Covid-19 we thank you all so much for  shopping (with mask on) or hitting our webstore and ordering up at shop.horizonrecords.net and supporting us. We are grateful beyond words and continue striving to stock a ton of new and vintage music and get it to you guys everyday. Getting used to the current normal obviously hasn’t been easy, but music seems to make us each feel better whatever our preferred style, genre or format may be. We are here for ya, whether you are looking for Chamber music by Rimsky-Korsakov, a bit of John Prine therapy, some classic Notorious B.I.G. or a NEW RELEASE. VINYL or CD, new or used.

MOLLY TUTTLE
...bit i'd rather be with you
vinyl LP & CD
buy it here!

Molly Tuttle’s “…but I’d rather be with you” is a dazzling journey through some of her personal favorites by artists like The National, FKA Twigs, The Rolling Stones & more. The multi-talented singer-songwriter and instrumentalist taught herself how to use Pro Tools digital amoreudio workstation to record and engineer ten much-loved songs while stuck at home alone. She then sent them to producer Tony Berg in Los Angeles, who employed session musicians to fill in the parts from their home studios. The result, …but I’d rather be with youis a lovely, low-key, intimate affair.

MY MORNING JACKET
Waterfall II
ltd merlot-wave color vinyl LP & CD
buy it here!

The Waterfall II completes, My Morning Jacket’s acclaimed 2015 record. Originally intended to be a sprawling triple album, the band were advised to hold back and keep some of it on the shelf. Until now! Frontman Jim James says, "this is simply the second half of a long snapshot of life for me as a writer in the years leading up to 2014, and the life of us as a band as we lived and worked in the epic country in and around Stinson Beach, CA during these recording sessions."

ANGEL OLSEN
Whole New Mess
vinyl LP & CD
buy it here!

Olsen’s 2016 marvel, My Woman, had been a career break through, but it catalyzed a period of personal tumult, too: a painful breakup, an uneasy recovery, an inadequate reckoning. At home in Asheville, Olsen penned songs that finally grappled with these troubles, particularly love—how forever is too much to promise, how relationships can lock us into static versions of ourselves, how you can go through hell just to make someone else happy. These heartsore explorations shape Whole New Mess, Olsen’s first solo album since her 2012 debut and an emotional portrait so intimate and vulnerable you can hear her find meaning in these crises in real-time. Nine of these eleven songs would later be arranged for Olsen's 2019 masterpiece All Mirrors. But this precursor solo set is more than demos. Olsen's working through her open wounds and raw nerves with just a few guitars and some microphones, isolated in a century-old church in the Pacific Northwest.

52 page hardbound foil stamped coffee table book with 2 LPs, handwritten lyrics and over 20 previously unseen photographs.

When Elliott Smith's self-titled second album came out in 1995, it was ignored by the press but championed by artists from the Beastie Boys to Fugazi. To commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Elliott Smith, the Kill Rock Stars label is releasing a special deluxe package, which includes a new remastering of the original record; a coffee table book of previously unseen photographs by JJ Gonson with handwritten lyrics, reminiscences from Smith's friends and colleagues, and previously unseen photographs; and a bonus disc documenting the earliest known recording of Smith performing as a solo act. The set is a revelatory look at an under-appreciated work by an artist whose influence continues to expand seventeen years after his death.

H.C. McEntire
Eno Axis
ltd swirl color vinyl LP & CD
buy it here!

Narratively, H.C. McEntire’s Eno Axis is about finding direction in the natural world, and following love. The songs are inspired by the colors and tones of open tunings, by the sacrality of space and instinct. Stylistically, it’s folk-rock leaning into its curious experimental side and moved by the spiritual rawness of classic soul and the simplicity of earnest pop. Eno Axis feels like a confident and mature step forward from her debut album LIONHEART—in tone, arrangement, production, and spirit.
