Make September Count!
Week 1

Hi, <<First Name>>,

Leading up to UNGA , we are in for a significant month filled with events that create an avenue to advocate for ‘The Future We Want, and The UN We Need, and opportunities to make the  75th Anniversary of the UN count by further strengthening multilateralism in a time when the world needs it the most.

Have you responded to the UN75 survey yet?

As the UN engages in large scale consultation, through online dialogues, formal opinion polling and media analysis, to mark its 75th anniversary, you can make your voice heard by participating in the UN75 survey and ensuring specifically that civil society inclusion, and particularly the proposal for a civil society focal point, is shown to be of key importance.

We are 21 days away from the United Nations official UN75 Commemorative events (mostly virtual) held on the 21st of September. We seek as many endorsements of the People’s Declaration and Call for Global Action “ Humanity at a Crossroads: Global Solutions for Global Challenges,” to fairly represent the diversity of civil society from around the world.

This document proposes a bold ‘Call for Global Action’ and an annex of proposed reform proposals reflective of the aspirations of various constituencies represented by UN2020 advocating for stronger international cooperation, human solidarity, and global citizenship. It is time for civil society voices to be heard.

The United Nations at 75 Years: Prospects and Potentials
September 3 2020
3:00pm-5:30pm (CEST) / 9:00am-11:30am Eastern

In an era of accelerated connectivity and advanced technology, how do we bring a fresh, modern perspective to the UN Charter’s founding principles to update our vision and promote a truly “people-centered” architecture for global collective action? How can we harness our collective strength among governments, global civil society, UN agencies, the business community, youth and the general public to design The Future We Want, The UN We Need?

You are invited to a forward-looking global discussion on the future of the United Nations. We reflect on the global institutional arrangements that we currently have —and that may be needed in the future—to respond to the complex and inter-related challenges facing our world, including global pandemics, economic shocks, inequality, climate instability, and threats to peace and security.

This event is hosted by  UN2020; Faculty of Global Governance and Global Affairs (FGGA), Leiden University, The Hague; Stimson Center; Together First (TF); Global Governance Forum (GGF); Chinese Initiative on International Law; Bahá’í International Community; United Nations Association of the Netherlands.

Designing a Roadmap to the Future We Want, The UN We Need

The UN 75 Global Governance Forum seeks to promote a more inclusive and effective United Nations through dialogue and recommendations that better harness the ideas, capabilities, and networks of both state and non-state actors for achieving the UN’s commitment to peace, sustainable development, human rights, and a stable climate.

You are invited to collectively  raise the ambition of the UN75 Declaration—to be adopted on September 21st by world leaders—by initiating new multi stakeholder pilot projects and presenting global governance innovations toward the realization of “the future we want, the UN we need.” Information regarding the forum, including the agenda, honorary co-chairs, partnership and innovation tracks, and speakers can be found on the forum website.

UN2020 and Together First are co-leading the development of a new partnership on “Enhancing civil society space and participation at the United Nations” which will report out during the morning plenary session on September 17. UN2020 is also co-sponsoring the Forum’s community-driven session titled “Reaching the Summit: Promoting the Potential of the UN75 Declaration” at 9:00am EDT on September 18.

Seventy-five years ago, world leaders, recoiling from the horrors of war, sought to secure a future free from fear and free from want. The result was the United Nations, established in the name of “We the Peoples.” From its very origins, civil society and social movements were its strong partners and helped to shape the vision and mission of the UN.

Join us in saying thank you as we take this auspicious occasion to remember the UN’s achievements and how it has affected people’s lives around the world.

Express your gratitude and reflection in our Thank You UN e-book today!
