Letter from the Director

Dear Phoenixville Family and Friends,

A shared purpose unites people.

More than five years ago, a few extraordinary individuals had a compelling mission and a vision for the community.  They decided to form a secular non-profit that would seek to listen to the community, identify needs, and utilize vacant spaces on the Sacred Heart Campus to fill gaps in services.  These were the founders of Ann's Heart, our non-profit 501(c)(3) charity organization with a mission to provide a place of welcome and human services for all Phoenixville area people. In March of 2015, their dream became a reality.

It is with sincere gratitude that we thank our founders, Cathy Mitchell, Dave Gautreau, Maria Galarza, Ben Anderson, and Rev. John Newns, for taking the initiative and starting an organization that is committed to the well-being and connectivity of the Phoenixville community.

Now, as our organization turns five years old, we have over 550 people in the Phoenixville community volunteering, donating, partnering, and participating in the vision.  Through this experience, I have learned that teamwork in any capacity can lead to some unbelievable accomplishments.  Thank you for all your continued support and generosity.

Warm and healthy regards,
Kristen McGee
Executive Director

A HEARTfelt Farewell
to two of our founding Board Members

In the month of June we had to say goodbye and thank you to two of our founding Board members, Maria Galarza and Rev. John Newns, as they reached their six year term limits.  Looking back on their time with Ann's Heart, we are reminded of the achievements made possible with their leadership and perseverance.

After sharing their vision with the Phoenixville community in 2014, Maria and Rev. Newns worked tirelessly to repurpose a space in downtown Phoenixville for the community.  In honor of their service and commitment, a park bench with a dedication plaque was placed in our Hall Street Community Garden. We are truly grateful, Maria and Rev. Newns, for six years of irreplaceable service to this community.

Founding Board Member, Rev. John Newns, is presented with a memorial bench in the new Hall Street Community Garden, located outside of the HEART.

Welcome...

To the two newest additions to the Ann's Heart Board of Directors; Tony Ciaverelli and Steve Niewinski!

Both Tony and Steve have been long time supporters of Ann's Heart behind the scenes. Having volunteered at the Code Blue Center and supported our initiatives at the ground level, our newest members have already made an impact on our organization. Now, joining the Board, they are looking forward to helping steer Ann's Heart forward as we launch the HEART and other initiatives aimed at strengthening their community.

Help us welcome Tony and Steve to the Ann's Heart family!

A New Partnership

Ann's Heart is excited to announce our partnership with Kimberton Whole Foods, the sponsors of our new HEART Kitchen.

Kimberton Whole Foods is a multi-generational family business that is making meaningful contributions to regional sustainable agriculture.  We are humbled by their commitment to local farmers and vendors, and are truly grateful for their sponsorship of the renovations of our HEART Kitchen

Thank you Kimberton Whole Foods!

Update on the HEART Kitchen

Construction is almost complete at the HEART Kitchen. We are finalizing the last major components and inspections, preparing to install the finishing touches, and excited to start bringing in the culinary equipment that will round out our project! Drop ceilings, new LED lighting, and the updated HVAC are really helping to make our spaces bright and inviting.

We cannot wait to share our finished space with you!

SUPPORT THE HEART KITCHEN

Dîner en Vert 2020

Thank you to all of our Dîner en Vert attendees, partners, donors, and sponsors!

This year definitely made a BIG impact!  We sold 175 tickets and had a wonderful turnout with great feedback after the event. Because of you we raised over $18,000 after expenses. These funds were utilized towards purchasing our new kitchen equipment, such as the dishwasher, convection ovens, sinks, and prep tables.

A big shout out to our amazing restaurant partners for the incredible food, to our fiscal sponsors for making our event possible, to the incredible folks at Back to Earth Compost Crew for helping ensure that Dîner en Vert was as lo- footprint as possible and for providing the free month of compost pickup to attendees, and a huge thank you to all of the incredible volunteers who helped make this event a success! Last but not least, thank you to our community partners at Delaware Valley Vegan Education Group who once again dreamed big and helped us make our event a success in a new virtual format.

OUR VOLUNTEERS ROCK

Thank you to all the incredible volunteers who joined us over the summer supporting the Phoenixville Area School District's Lunch Program. Because of you, we helped provide FREE lunches, emergency food boxes, and weekend bags of groceries to families in need in our area!

Did you know that 1,200 students out of just over 4,200 in our school district qualify for free or subsidized lunch? Help us keep access to this important meal program going during Virtual / At-Home School this Fall! We will need just 5 volunteers a day to help provide FREE lunches to students in our district.
